CHAPTER 39: Jack, a lady?

Rick's POV

I found myself pacing around the ward, my heart filled with conflicting thoughts, all of which weren't making any sense to me. Plus, the fact that I wasn't fully yet recovered from the drug.

I tried to move over to the window, maybe I needed that fresh air to think, but there again, my legs tripped over a hardened substance on the floor, and I stumbled a further.

A silent groan rumbled through my chest. My foot turned bright red at the spot, the area swollen with a sharp pain that coursed through my spine.

I crouched down to check the spot, resting my arms on my knees. My heart was heavy with worry.

I felt a strange sense of danger. Something wasn't right. I could feel it deep down in my bones, but I couldn't describe what exactly it was.

Was it when I saw Doctor Kate with those guards? Or the strange hotel encounter I still couldn't believe involved Catherine?
