Elliot's face darkened even more with the uncomfortable disparity. He gritted his teeth, "It must be him. Desmond, you betrayed me first. Don't blame me!"
Levi noticed my bad mood, "Hey, don't cry."
I rolled my eyes at him, "As if."
Just as I was about to ask why he showed up, my phone rang. It was HR from Skyler.
"Desmond, I just got word that your return-to-work application might be delayed a bit. You should just keep resting for now. We'll be in touch later."
Levi was right next to me and heard everything clearly. He snatched the phone and demanded, "Why? Is there something wrong with Desmond? What's Skyler up to?"
I quickly grabbed the phone back, said I understood, and hung up.
I forced a smile, "Don't mess up my job, alright? I'm still waiting to go back."
Seeing my poor mood, he wanted to say something but held back. He just patted my shoulder and said cryptically, "Don't worry, leave it to me."
