Chapter 12: Escape from the Academy

Aurelia was right behind him as they dashed through the underground corridors, alarms blaring overhead.

"This is bad," she panted. "Like, execution-level bad."

"No kidding," Gabriel muttered.

They skidded around a corner—only to come face-to-face with a towering mech-suit, its pilot's visor flashing red.

[ELIMINATE THE DEVIANT.]

Gabriel's heart pounded. He was still figuring out his abilities—there was no way he could fight something like that.

But maybe… he didn't have to.

His mind reached out, connecting with the mech's System.

For a split second, he saw everything—its structure, its programming, the very code that made it move.

And then, he did something reckless.

[SYSTEM OVERRIDE: TRANSFER CONTROL]

The mech froze. Its red visor flickered—then turned blue.

The pilot inside screamed as the machine rejected him, the cockpit forcefully ejecting him from the suit.

Gabriel stepped forward, grinning.

"I think I just found our getaway vehicle."

Aurelia blinked. "I'm both terrified and impressed."

He climbed into the mech's cockpit, the controls responding to his thoughts.

The Academy had just made him an enemy.

Now it was his turn to show them what a real Deviant could do.
