Seeing my continued indifference, he threw a stack of medical reports directly at my face.

"Take a good look. She doesn't have much time left. Why can't you show her a little more compassion?"

It was a report for late-stage cancer. I finally understood why both Mr. Harrington and Scarlett were so indulgent towards her.

Suddenly, as if struck by a realization, I looked up and smiled.

"So that's how it is..."

It turns out it's just like in novels - when the heroine is dying, everyone suddenly feels indebted to her.

I found it utterly ridiculous.

My hand caressed the report, its contents feeling oddly familiar.
