Chapter 3

Everyone huddled in the classroom in small groups, James had finally calmed down as he started searching for his phone, he started feeling all over himself panicly. He had just calmed down and now his heart was racing again. He finally felt the phone in his jacket pocket and pulled it out breathing a breath of relief. He swiped up seeing he missed a few calls from his mother, sister and other people. He pressed his sister number as the phone rang and then was answered after a few seconds.

"Ellie , Ellie, Ellie, where are you?" James said in one sentence.

" James why are you talking so fast?" Ellie responded. She sounded calm as if she was unaware of the current situation.

"Did Mom call you?"

" I think so, she called me earlier but I missed it and after I called back it got cut off. Why?"

" Nothing just-" Before James could finish speaking a loud noise echoed through the phone.

"Hold on James" she was quiet for a moment, before speaking again. "I think Rose's parents are fighting again. She probably need someone to talk to, I'm going to go over there now" Ellie picked up a snack as she moved to the door, but then James barked through the phone telling her to stay indoors as he stood to his feet catching the attention of others.

" Do not leave the house, stay in doors. Don't let anyone in. I mean it Ellie" James said seriously.

"What? What's going on James?" She asked as her voice brought fear. She was only ten years old, home alone, unable to contact her mother and her brother was away. James didn't get the time to answer as the call was suddenly cut off.

" Ellie? Ellie?" James called out, but got no response. His heart started racing as he didn't know or understand what happened. He had a signal so why couldn't he reach his sister.

"Oh man, oh man, oh man" Alex said sitting on the floor leaning on the wall beside James. James looked down at his friend, who have been continuously repeating phrases and haven't said a proper sentence over the last few minutes. James then held unto Alex's arm who jerked looking up and went silent, fear was written all over his face.

" Are you ok?" James asked looking into Alex's wide eyes. Alex took deep breaths in and out and then answered.

" Yes I'm fine, did you get a hold of your sister ?" Alex asked trying to sound calm but James could still hear his voice trembling.

" I did but the call suddenly got cut off"

" Yeah, they're cutting off the power in some areas" Felix said his voice trembling more than before as he ran a hand through his bleached blonde looking hair before gripping it.

" What!?" Someone questioned who overheard them. The students in the classroom who had possession of there phones started dialing away, the classroom was filled with ringing sounds and conversations but only about two students got a hold of someone, as the others phone went to voicemail. They went into their group chats and started texting away hoping for a response but got none.

"Maybe the military will come" the girl who was with the two boys with the bat voiced.

"No, no I don't think so" Alex said tapping his feet on the floor probably a desperate way to calm his nerves as he scrolled through his phone. The girl trembled upon hearing Alex.

"No, your lying. You wouldn't know that" the girl said shakily denying Alex's words as her response brought tears.

" No and I know what I'm saying" Alex responded raising his voice as the girl stepped back erupting in tears.

" You piece on shit-" one of the boy with the bat said storming over to Alex gripping his shirt. "Can't you see your scaring her. Stop this bullshit" the boy said angrily.

" That's her problem, the truth still remains" Alex countered standing his ground holding on the boys shirt also. Everyone else stood their position not moving to intervene. A boy then came forward to put a stop to the commotion.

" You need to calm down Bryan" The boy said walking over to both boys.

" Who's you? No matter Fuck off"

" My name is Alexander and I'm the school president" the boy said politely. " And it's best we at least hear this boy out, it seems he might know something we don't" Alexander responded with a straight face looking at Bryan.

" Can't you see he's scaring her" Bryan faced Alexander speaking loudly still holding onto Alex. Everyone remained quiet too caught up in their thoughts.

" We're all scared your bitch is just being extra" someone from the back said. Their eyes followed the voice and saw it was the girl wearing her bra and school skirt. Bryan glared at the girl releasing Alex and started marching over to her, but before he could someone held on his shoulder causing him to stop. Bryan turned around and saw Alexander who looked at him with a piercing gaze. Bryan shrugged off his arm before walking back to his friends. Alexander stood in the middle of the classroom as he delivered a few words.

" It's very clear we're unware of what's happening but it would be best to at least know each other's name. So far only Alex seem to possess some sort of information. So Alex could you tell us what you know?" Alexander said catching everyone's attention as they listened to him without interfering. Alexander had only heard Alex's name possibly a few times, but he already learnt it.

" I don't man. All I know is there cutting off the signal in some areas, probably the power too. This seems to be happening everywhere and where probably under Martial law. There calling this the X Virus, X meaning the virus is unidentified. It's unknown. This couldn't be a disease it spreads too quickly, it just highly contagious. Nobody knows what they're dealing with or yet. But we should try not to get bitten that's how you'll end up infected and there's no turning back after that, a bite and after a few minutes you're gone" Alex explained as everyone remained silent trying to process the new information.

"Oh shit, oh shit oh shit" Alex said repeatedly as he ran a hand through his hair again and started tapping his feet. James held his shoulder causing him to jump again meeting James with his terrified eyes. Alex swallowed, exhaled heavily and went back to normal.

" Seems like they're planning to bomb a few areas or something. I'm not fully sure" Alex added.

"What no, my dad is a soldier he will come for me" the girl who sat with the two boys said as she started to cry again.

"Calm down Audrey" one of the boy's said squeezing her shoulder.

" It's true Dave my dad will come" she said choking back tears.

Alexander was calm and collective and could easily get the attention of others. After they shared their names the room was mostly quiet as no one really cared to start a conversation and stayed silent only engaging with their close friends. Felix stood to the wall paying close attention to everyone, Felix could see Alexander as a leader figure as he went to everyone checking on them and engaging in small conversations. Felix walked over to the window and stuck his head out looking around. He could see the infected wondering aimlessly. Felix watched closely and then thought of idea, he went over to his bag and took a book from it. He looked at the book in his have and inhaled heavily as if he was about to do something he didn't want to.

Felix walked back to the window and then with all his might he threw the book out. As the book landed it was immediately swarmed with the infected students trampling the book, surrounding it. Felix could see they were very sensitive to sound and had keen hearing. Felix then took his phone and using it to reflect light shined light on one of the infected students but they only twitched their head violently and gashed there teeth's, but the didn't do much movement.

" They're sensitive to sound?" A voice spoke close to Felix's ear.

Felix heart quicken as he looked around to see Alexander looking outside the window too. His question sounded more of a statement so Felix didn't answer. They were both looking through the window when a light flashed in Felix's eye. He closed his eye before opening them and saw a student in the tree and another crunched under a stone table that students normally had lunch on. The boy in the tree using his phone directed light at Felix.

"Others are outside" Alexander muttered and those who heard him rushed to the windows looking out, scanning the area.

"Can't we do something?" Someone said wanting to help.

Alexander took up a book he saw on the floor and threw it outside and the infected students gathered around it. He then threw another book and the same thing happened. The boy in tree noticed he was getting help from other students as they were clearing a path for him, he jumped out the tree and started running for shelter, soon more books and even a chair landed on the floor but it wasn't from them, they looked to the side where they saw students from the opposite class a few blocks down. No one spoke the plan but they all understood what to do. As the boy ran another student who was in hiding followed, but then the infected came in the opposite direction, attracted by the noise. The three students made their path elsewhere as they ran in horror. The boy kept looking back and soon tripped and was immediately sprang at as his body got buried with the infected. The next boy stumbled into a trash can and was then chewed on as his scream mixed with the gashing of teeth, inhumane sounds and the ripping of his flesh. The girl that was running with the boys ran elsewhere screaming as everyone watched as she disappeared from sight with the infected students chasing after her, only faith knowing what will happen to her.
