Chapter 2

But now, I couldn't believe anymore.

I remained silent, letting tears ravage my face unchecked.

The wounds stung fiercely as they were soaked with tears.

"Melody, don't worry, I promise I'll marry you. About your kidnapping case, could you write a letter of understanding for Luna?"

Hearing this, I finally couldn't contain my anger anymore and sat up straight.

"Landon, you promised me that you'd make sure anyone who hurt me would be sent to jail and get the punishment they deserve."

"So why is Luna the only exception? Does the whole world make exceptions just for her?"

"Landon, open your eyes and look! Who do you think I ended up like this for?!"

I screamed hysterically, pointing at Landon's nose and cursing loudly.

But Landon's gaze grew colder and colder as he looked at me, until he finally spoke with an almost callous rebuke:

"Melody, what's happened to you?"

"Where did all your kindness and thoughtfulness go? Was it all just an act to trick me into marriage?"

"If that's the case, I'll have to seriously reconsider getting that marriage license."

Hearing these absurd and ridiculous accusations, bitterness and helplessness crawled up my heart layer by layer.I was about to open my mouth to argue, but I saw Landon pull out his phone, and the coldness in his eyes instantly dissipated.

"You should really take some time to reflect on your actions."

He said this without even looking up from his phone before walking away.

Watching his retreating figure, my heart sank to the depths.

The last glimmer of hope was extinguished.

So this was the man I had loved wholeheartedly for three years.

It turns out that when a man doesn't love you, he can't see your wounds or hear your words.

Landon, don't worry.

We won't be getting that marriage license in this lifetime.

After that day, I never saw Landon again.

He vanished completely until I stumbled upon traces of him on Luna's social media.

"Revisiting old dreams with my first love."

The post was accompanied by a series of check-in photos, a blend of new and old scenes. Landon's presence was evident in each one.

Half of his face in one, his back in another, the palm of his right hand with that distinctive mole on the index finger...

Each photo felt like a needle piercing my eyes and heart, inflicting indelible pain.

In the end, I couldn't resist. I took screenshots of the post and sent them to Landon.

Not long after, Landon replied to my message."Melody, the doctor says accompanying Luna and helping her relax will aid in her depression recovery."

"Once she's better, I promise I'll come back to be with you, okay?"

Those familiar letters, how did they become so obscure and difficult to understand when put together?

I curled up in my bed, allowing the pain to gnaw at my nerves.

Memories of Landon kept flashing through my mind, the layered pain giving me a masochistic pleasure.

I tried to use this method to make myself remember the lesson.

That day, I passed by the resident physicians' office and overheard my name:

"Melody's leg can't be delayed any longer. If we wait, she might never be able to stand up again!"

"Do you really want to push her to this point for the sake of Luna?"

A sigh came from the other end of the phone:

"Right now, my top priority is to stay with Luna and help her recover. Melody is stubborn. If her leg heals, she'll definitely leave me."

"Bro, can you help me out one more time? After this, I swear I'll get her leg treated!"
