CHAPTER 82

082: Ash's Money-Making Plan!

Although it appears to be located deep within a wild forest with no clear protection in sight, the Pokémon Summer Camp is, in fact, a heavily secured facility.

The entire camp is enclosed by a high-tech security perimeter, much like the protected backyard behind Professor Oak's Laboratory. At the outermost boundary, a reinforced fence line embedded with surveillance systems encircles the whole camp.

It's just that the land area of the summer camp is astonishingly large.

Its size rivals that of the most extravagant resort properties, and in fact, it's more comparable to a secluded villa estate that spans an entire mountainside. It's no exaggeration to say it feels like an independent world nestled in nature.

Back when the bus departed Pallet Town, it traveled down the dirt road leaving the town's border, turned at a small fork at the edge of visibility, and drove steadily deeper into the mountainous area.

If someone were to fly high above the site using a Flying-type Pokémon like Pidgeot or Fearow they would see that the terrain of this region is unique. It's a naturally enclosed basin, surrounded on all sides by towering mountains and dense woodland.

That forked road at the beginning, nestled between two cliffs, was actually a natural entrance a gateway into the summer camp grounds.

This entire enclosed area is a sprawling valley terrain consisting of thick forest, large open glades, and several lakes created by streams running down from the surrounding mountains and converging below.

Ever since this valley was designated by the Indigo League as the official site for Kanto Region Pokémon Summer Camp 07, League personnel have regularly combed through it to remove or relocate overly aggressive or high-level wild Pokémon to ensure the safety of the students.

In fact, just one week before the start of the current camp, the League organized a major operation to clear out any dangerous Pokémon, creating a secure and balanced ecosystem for training.

As a result, the vast woodland valley that makes up the camp today is safe for exploration and training purposes.

At present, many students are still engaged in training matches and friendly challenges within designated clearings in the forest. Professor Oak and his research assistant, Kenji (known here as Xian Ping), are stationed nearby, continuing to observe the ongoing battles and update the "Student Performance Scoreboard."

As Ash strolled out of the camp area with Froakie perched on his shoulder, both Professor Oak and Kenji noticed but made no attempt to stop him.

They knew that there were no over-leveled Pokémon roaming the forested area. More importantly, the entire camp is fitted with discreet security cameras, and several League-appointed Rangers from the Search Corps patrol different zones throughout the day.

Thus, Oak wasn't concerned about students wandering off or getting lost.

After all, a Pokémon Trainer is not just a battler—they're also explorers and adventurers. That's part of what defines the spirit of a true trainer. Oak strongly believes in fostering those qualities in his students.

In fact, encouraging safe solo exploration was one of the original design goals of building such a large-scale wilderness camp.

The primary intention was to allow young trainers to develop their instincts and courage in the wild—under controlled and monitored conditions—before they officially set off on their personal Pokémon journeys.

So, as Ash stepped out beyond the camp's wood-fenced accommodation area into the thick greenery of the untamed forest, a gust of fresh, earthy air brushed across his face, carrying with it the aroma of moss, leaves, and wildflowers.

This was the Pokémon world in its most vivid and natural state.

Even though Ash retained vast knowledge of the Pokémon world from his past life, and now carried not only the inherited Aura (Waveguide) and Tokiwa's Blessing but also possessed the unique Mega Trainer System, the truth was that walking in a real forest filled with wild Pokémon still stirred something primal inside him.

It was the kind of thrill only a true trainer could understand and he was ready to make the most of it.

Ash possesses an unparalleled, exceptionally strong Trainer "talent" and a deep "capital" of abilities and experiences that will one day support his rise as a formidable Pokémon Trainer.

However, in the end, he is currently just a six-year-old child just like the other students participating in Professor Oak's summer camp and he was born into a rather unique and protective family environment.

Before this camp, Ash had never set foot in the wild. He had always been sheltered, and every time he tried to go near the outskirts of town, his mother, Delia Ketchum, would promptly bring him back. Thus, as he now officially steps into the wilderness of the Pokémon world for the first time, an irrepressible excitement and curiosity stirs within him.

His eyes darted around as he scanned the surroundings. The moment he spotted wild Pokémon, he cried out in delight, reacting even more childishly than a typical six-year-old.

But this wasn't necessarily a bad thing. In his past life, Ash had consumed countless Pokémon games, manga, and anime he'd seen Arceus, the literal god of creation in the Pokémon universe, and even managed to "capture" it within the confines of game mechanics.

Still, virtual experiences aside, despite being a player who once "caught Arceus," he had never laid eyes on a real Caterpie until now.

And now, here he was, walking through the wilderness of the summer camp and spotting an Oddish and a Bellsprout nestled in the underbrush, a Rattata darting along the ground, and a flock of Pidgey pecking at seeds or chasing tiny insects.

He even caught sight of a Caterpie chewing gently on fresh leaves in a tree's canopy. It was simple, but it stirred something deep within him.

Ash felt overwhelmed not by fear, but by emotion. Seeing Pokémon alive in their natural habitat touched something in him. These weren't pixels or sprites they were living, breathing creatures. He was no longer just reading or playing in a digital world he had truly traveled to the world of Pokémon. He was living it.

Although it had already been over a week since he was reincarnated into this world…

He had already bonded with and tamed his first Pokémon, Pichu, and today at the summer camp opening ceremony, he officially received Froakie. He had even participated in real Trainer battles against other students.

Still, deep in his heart, something had always felt vaguely surreal, like a lucid dream.

It wasn't until this moment entering the wild, immersing himself in the vibrant Pokémon ecosystem that his heart finally settled. For the first time, he fully believed and accepted that he had crossed into this new world.

"Huff!" Ash inhaled deeply, surrounded by the vibrant green canopy. He listened to the soft rustling of wind through leaves, the flutter of wings in the treetops, and the invisible chorus of bird Pokémon singing somewhere above.

A quiet happiness swelled within him raw, genuine, indescribable.

"I'm really looking forward to the future now," Ash said aloud, his lips curling into a wide, earnest grin.

"Quack~" chirped Froakie on his shoulder, nodding in agreement.

"Let's go, Froakie. It's time to get to work," Ash said, calming the emotion in his chest as he reached up and gave Froakie a reassuring pat.

He hadn't wandered out here into the forest just to admire nature—he had a purpose.

Even though the summer camp wasn't over, and Froakie was technically still a temporary partner assigned through the camp, Pichu was already officially his.

Even if, worst case, something went wrong during the final assessment and he failed to rank in the top three—thereby missing the chance to get a special early Trainer license from the League—he still had Pichu.

Even if it meant registering Pichu under his mother Delia's name temporarily, Ash was determined to train and raise his Pokémon properly.

But training Pokémon—especially young ones like Pichu—takes money. Whether it was food, vitamins, training items, Poké Balls, or healing supplies, all of it came with a cost. Although his mother was generous and supported him for now, Ash knew he needed to find his own source of income sooner or later.

Over the past few days, Ash had been brainstorming ideas for earning money in a way that fit his unique situation. Finally, he landed on a plan he believed could work.

He would take advantage of the Skill Copy module within his Mega Trainer System to help other Trainers' Pokémon learn special moves.

Ash's idea was to open a shop—under Delia's name for now on the Alliance's official trading and services network.

In the original games, there was an NPC called the "Move Deleter" who could help Pokémon forget unnecessary moves. Ash, however, would offer the opposite service—he would use his system's power to help Pokémon learn custom or rare moves they normally couldn't acquire.

This plan, Ash believed, would be the first step in building both his reputation and his resources.
