A cute, delicate-looking child with black hair and black eyes that seem to radiate intelligence far beyond his age was lying under a tree with his eyes closed. He seemed to be asleep, but if anyone were to look carefully at his face, it would be obvious that he was not asleep because of the expressions on his face.
There was an interesting activity taking place inside his mind.
[Arrg… This is why I hate dealing with natives; why couldn't you be a transmigrator? So infuriating!!!]
[This is unbearable!] The voice screeched, childish and distorted. [You're wasting time. Accept the binding!]
Yuno's eyelid flickered. "You're wasting my time," he muttered. "Youkai don't give gifts. They take."
[I'm not a Youkai!]
"Then what are you? A ghost? A curse?"
He was met with silence.
He'd learned its patterns over the past year. The voice always dodged that question. Just like it dodged explaining why it chose him.
Typical predator, he thought. 'Granny once said foxes offered honeyed words before biting throats.'
[Your clan needs me,] it insisted. [Without my power, they'll—]
"Die?" Yuno scoffed. "You've been saying that multiple times. But you won't say how."
Last year, at the age of 3, he heard a voice in his mind of an entity calling itself a system. At that time, he was so panicked that he ran off and tried to tell his grandmother what happened, but the words wouldn't come out.
No matter how hard he tried, he could not tell a single soul about this entity. So he had to make up a stupid excuse, but his granny did not believe it, judging by how panicked he was.
She came to the conclusion that someone bullied him, and it took a lot of persuasion to convince her otherwise.
After communication with the entity, he began to understand what was happening.
Basically, some entity latched on to him, claiming to be powerful and was willing to give him many benefits as long as he agreed to bind it to his soul.
It claimed that his clan, the Uchiha clan, will meet its demise in the future, making him scoff.
Demise? His clan was the second most powerful clan in Konoha. Who would even be capable enough to wipe them out? Hashirama Senju? He was six feet under.
Tobirama? He was powerful, but not enough to exterminate them.
Who in the world would be capable of doing such a thing? The answer is no one. Even if other villages team up just to wipe out the Uchiha clan, it would be impossible, as the Uchiha clan is part of Konoha and serves as an important pillar; it is also a founding clan.
Any other clan in Konoha could be wiped out, but he refused to believe that the Uchiha and the Senju could possibly be wiped out. Konoha would not allow such a thing.
Unless the whole village is destroyed.
Luckily, he always heeded his granny's words about trusting strangers and the fact that nothing was for free.
The annoying thing is that it made it impossible for him to tell anyone about its existence and what was happening to him.
[Binding isn't possession,] the system said, softer now. [Think of me as… a tool. Like a kunai. You control me.]
Yuno plucked a leaf from his sleeve, studying its veins. "Kunai doesn't talk."
[Fine!] It buzzed louder, needles drilling his temples. [Stay stubborn. You are destined to die way before that event anyways; don't beg me for help when you die knowing that the entirety of your clan will be met with the same fate!]
This was basically how their arguments always went; it was nothing new to Yuno.
Truthfully, a seed had long been planted in him by the system, and he was wavering. Of course he didn't want to show this to the youkai; he wasn't sure if it had caught on.
Granny's voice echoed in his skull: "Uchiha trust their eyes." But this thing offered no proof—only empty threats.
Yet…
What if?
He touched the Uchiha crest stitched onto his collar. Four-year-olds weren't meant to carry this weight. But he wasn't just a typical four-year-old; he was unusually perceptive and mature beyond his age.
It wasn't just his maturity that made him special; he was a genius in shinobi training and left all of his peers in the dust.
A leaf crunched behind him. Yuno spun, Sharingan flaring red on instinct—a single tomoe spinning wild in his left eye.
He awakened it half a year ago when his grandmother passed away; she was already very old, which was rare for a shinobi and was considered a blessing. She died peacefully in her sleep, and her death left him feeling hollow. He didn't want her to die; he didn't want to be alone and didn't want to live in a world without her.
His granny, Uchiha Yuki, was the closest person to him since birth. His mother died during childbirth, and his father died succumbing to an illness when he was very young.
She was his anchor, and her death hit him hard; he experienced such intense emotional stimulation that he awakened the single tomoe sharingan.
Just when he felt lost and alone, some people from the clan took care of him, making him feel the warmth of family once again. It made him realize that the Uchiha clan as a whole was a family.
So even if he was possibly being deceived, he couldn't take any chances when it came to the survival of his clan.
'I know I shouldn't; I am smarter than this. But-'
Images of the elderly women and aunts who always come to check on him crossed his mind.
He suddenly stood up and took a deep breath.
"Hey, Youkai."
[I said that I am not a Youkai! Can't yo-]
"If I allow you to bind to my soul, will you really prevent the tragedy of the Uchiha clan that you speak of?"
[what?!! It means that you've agreed, right?! This is great! Let me tell you—]
"Will you prevent the demise of my clan immediately after I allow you to bind?!"
Yuno's sharp, impatient voice cut off the system's excited voice.
He believed that something bad would happen to him once he let the Youkai latch on to his soul, so he needed the deal to be carried out the moment that happened, as he thinks that this thing probably wanted to take his body over or maybe eat his soul.
During this period, he became aware of the fact that the Youkai cannot forcefully bind to his soul or do anything to him. The most it could do is prevent him from revealing its existence and annoying him anytime it pleases by transmitting its voice directly into his head.
[Uhh… Not exactly-]
"Alright, waste of time. I was a fool to even consider accepting the deal."
[Can you stop being impatient and listen! You will decide after listening to my explanation!]
"Don't blame me for behaving like this. You've always made it seem as if you would magically solve all of my problems after binding to my soul; now you want to change after getting my approval?"
Truthfully, with his pride as an Uchiha, he would want to handle his own problems no matter how hard they appear to be.
Yuno always assumed the worst when it came to binding the system, so he was thinking of somehow letting the system solve the problem, and whatever happened to him, at least he would know that his clan would be safe.
[Hey, I am not going to go back on my word; just listen.] The system was exasperated.
[To be honest, after binding to your soul, your problem will not be magically solved by the system. The system will provide you with a chance to become stronger and get more abilities, skills, knowledge, and experience.
The system will not give you anything for free. You will go to different worlds and complete missions in those worlds and get rewarded. This is just a general description; there is obviously much more to it.]
"Ignoring the fact that you claim that there are other worlds, a lot could happen if I were to leave the village to another universe. And I will probably be labelled as a defector. I assume you have thought of a solution?" Yuno asked with a frown.
It was indeed shocking that there may be other worlds apart from the one he resides in, but that was not his priority concern.
[No need to worry about such a small thing; time flows differently between different worlds and yours. You could live a lifetime in another world, and not even a single second would have passed in your own universe… Amazing, right??]
"Uh… yeah."
The system's childish and smug voice irritated him, but if it was truthful, then it was an extremely shocking feat.
"I don't get it; you are so powerful; why don't you just do everything yourself? Why do you need to involve me? How does that benefit you?"
[Truthfully… I am not that powerful. I operate within certain rules and cannot break them. My entire existence is solely to guide a unique soul like yours to complete missions and earn some rewards. I also benefit from those rewards, and the truly powerful one is the central system… The one who makes all of this possible.]
—————-
After a lengthy discussion with the system and learning the ins and outs from it, he was truly shocked.
It is not that he believed everything, but he is more willing to take the risk of accepting to bind the system after hearing it out.
"All this time, you could have just explained everything to me the same way, and I would have probably accepted binding you. You know this, so why now?" He voiced his doubts.
[I can't talk about such a thing in detail to someone who has no intention of binding. Do you think I didn't want to tell you? There are rules to follow, I only got permission to be more detailed the moment you decided to become my host.]
"What if I pretend to accept and back out at the last minute after extracting information from you?"
[Oh… it is impossible. The moment you truly decided to become a host, the system could sense it, and the fact that I was allowed to share such information with you means that the central system sensed that you will end up choosing to become a host no matter what.]
The powerful central system is something that interests Yuno, but as an Uchiha and future shinobi, he knows better, so he didn't dwell on it.
[Do you wish to bind the system?]
"Yes."
[Binding…]

++++++++++
Done with the first chapter, it was hard to write the first chapter.
This is my very first fanfiction… At first, I wanted to do translation, but after seeing other translators struggling with their novels getting taken down, I decided to just write an original fanfiction.
I decided to do this novel thing full-time. I wanted to write my own original webnovel and postponed it as I recognized that I still needed to improve myself first and my writing was not up to par. After much thought, I decided to either translate or write a fanfic… And this is how I came to this point.
Please do comment on what you think of the chapter if you have any complaints or suggestions.
Sorry if it is a bit underwhelming; I assure you, I will gradually improve my writing.
