Chapter 13
Third Pov
Luis and Leah looked at the doors, as the doorknobs slowly turned to the side. Leah quickly moved Luis from the hall, as the doors opened abruptly. They say nothing but they heard something. Rapid footsteps on the floor heading towards them, Leah wasn't sure what went wrong as she channelled her inner Bonnie and sprinted ahead, dragging Luis with him. The rapid footsteps seemed to have slowed down as the pair ran up the stairs.
How does one escape from something they can’t even see?
Good question.
They don’t.
No matter how fast they ran around the spacious home, avoiding the furniture and going as far as to jump on it, they failed horribly. The collars of their clothes were snatched, forcing them to be dragged away into separate rooms, they were officially lost in a house in the middle of the night on an abandoned street with the lights giving out quickly.
Leah was dropped in one of the rooms, she was glad that it had a window, allowing the moonlight to make everything visible to her as she found herself looking at multiple portraits in the room, she recognized the faces as it was the bloodline of the Lock’s family. Her face turned soured when she looked at the portrait of Isaiah, his smile that shined brightly while holding his younger sisters close to him. Their parents absent in the portraits as she expected.
‘They can’t even pretend to be into it.’ She frowned openly, dusting her clothes as she looked around to be familiar with her surroundings. Her eyes darted around the room, the moon acting as a dimmed source of light for her to see. The empty streets around the building made goosebumps travel through her arms quickly, she was slowly becoming scared as this was something she was unfamiliar with. Unaware of the gold glow of her eyes, while the portraits started to look towards her, like they were observing her moves, waiting for her to draw closer to them.
The auburn-haired woman could feel her ears twitching, an involuntary action made by her body when she felt something was off. She halted herself, moving an inch away from the wall, quickly turning around to see a hand coming out of it, trying to drag in. She could hear her heart in her throat as she moved back as fast she could. Leah was unable to run any faster as the hand tugged onto her long hair, dragging her closer to the portrait, ready to pull her in. She visibly panicked, looking around as she looked around for anything to hit the hand, create enough pain for it to let go of her.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t grab the lamp that was suddenly in her view, as she was dragged into the portrait, letting out a scream, one that was unheard, as it only echoed in the room, she was formerly in. She was taken away in a building where many had been lost. She looked around the portrait she was in, finding herself looking at a very familiar face.
Luis felt himself be dropped on top of someone.
“Ouch!!” The voice was familiar, he didn’t waste a moment and hugged her. He sighed in relief, as a torchlight was lifted up and switched on, and he found himself to be staring at a slightly bruised up Bonnie. The dark-haired woman was startled by the hug. “This is no time to be hugging me.” She was happy to see him, even if she wasn’t showing it as the task at hand was to find herself and the others an exit out of the house.
Luis didn’t let go of her even after he helped her back on her feet, keeping her close as it was very easy to get separated and lost in the building. The blond-haired man made sure to keep her close, his hand holding hers tightly as the torchlight helped them see the contents of the home. The walls were filled mostly of pictures and painted portraits of the Lock family bloodline. Everyone that was remotely related to the family had a picture or self-portrait hanged on the wall.
“This feels more like a museum for the city’s founding family than a house for Mrs Ophelia.” Luis wasn’t afraid to speak his mind on the matter, even if he was still recovering from the sight of the tentacled creature that nearly broke his mind with one glance at it. Bonnie hummed, looking around for Leah, since she took note of her absence and was already worried about her. The redhead wasn’t known for having the best luck, so she wouldn’t be surprised if she was captured by whatever entity that was in the home. The cat was still leading Bonnie through the building, keeping away from the walls, like it sensed something was wrong. Bonnie took note of it, simply believing the cat had better senses than them, so they could trust it enough to avoid anything that seemed off to it.
On the other hand, Luis felt like that Kevin the Cat was slightly more observant and intelligent than the average cat. Cats were smart animals, he knew that as he had a lot of time having cats as pets from childhood, he currently had two in his apartment right now. He said nothing for the time being, as the cat stopped, staying still before hiding behind Bonnie’s legs. The two of them looked at each other, their faces tensed up a bit, watching the door in front of them being scratched and cut through.
“The door is made of metal, right?” Luis asked her, as he didn’t have the time to inspect the materials used to make the doors inside the home.
“Your point exactly?” Bonnie inquired in a quiet tone, quickly turning around as she decided to walk back to the spot they were formerly in, as it seemed a lot safer than whatever was behind the door right now.
“We should start running them.” Bonnie let out a surprised gasp, as he carried her up in his arms and started to run off.
Bam!!
The door was broken down, the pair didn’t even try to look back at whatever was chasing them. They didn’t think twice, as Luis ran off quickly, leaving Kevin the Cat alone. The furry companion stood still on its spot looking at the creature that ran towards them before walking towards the door and continued to travel around the building, even if it had to do it alone now as its human companions were now lost in the maze of a house.
