Chapter 14
Third POV
Luis was fast on his heels, while carrying Bonnie on his back, quickly breaking down the door in front of him after noting that it was made from wood compared to the other door that the creature that was chasing them had. Bonnie never tried looking back, not even once, choosing to pick up any object they could find and scatter it around the ground to slow the creature down. Eventually the lights were turned on when they reached another door, finding themselves in the hallway once more, looking at the multitude of doors they saw when entering the building in the first place.
“This is too creepy.”
“Agreed.”
Bonnie wanted to go home now but Leah needed to be there for them to leave if there was a chance of leaving the building in the first place. Luis was starting to think that the house was haunted, he wasn’t one for believing in things that can’t be proven by science, but he did know a lot could be proven by observation and pattern recognition, he may not have been a detective due to the dangers of it. Both were unaware of the sudden red in the sky that seemed to be gravitating towards the moon, dulling its vibrant surface by staining it in crimson.
The crimson moon hovered above the sky, while they continued to run around the place like headless chickens, eventually reaching the hallway. “Where is she, Luis?” Bonnie asked, noticing his gaze at the front door but his gaze was locked onto the red lighting from outside the room. “Lost in this house like us.” Bonnie slowly came down from his back as she switched off her torchlight as the unnatural color in sky was providing them light without her having to worry about her batteries to be wasted.
“Phone signal?”
“Down,” Luis answered, keeping them far away from the windows and door as he wasn’t sure what the effects of the moon’s current light would have on them and decided to venture back to the middle of the room. They were placed in a position where either decision they made would force them to face an unexplainable unknown that could follow no rules of science. He really needed to find Leah, since her positivity was needed unless they would tire themselves out with all their thinking and worrying on the spot.
They remained in one position for a few minutes, constantly moving whenever they heard footsteps heading their way at a fast pace. Bonnie and Luis needed to conserve their energy, while silently listening for any sounds that they could possibly use to detect Leah but came out empty, further worrying Bonnie in the process as her best friend had gone radio silent.
Bonnie closed her eyes for a few seconds as a sudden flash of a cat was seen, feeling the need to blink then quickly opened her eyes again to be sure if her mind was simply playing tricks on her due to the stress she had. She blinked rapidly, simply dismissing it for her own sanity but kept constantly seeing flashes of the animal every time her eyelids were closed, the freakishly tall shadowy figure seemed to emerge from the creature’s shadow as it moved closer the longer, she blinked for a second while the fluffy animal sat down and watched the creature head towards her, always stopping the moment her eyes were opened immediately. She tried her best to limit how much she blinked yet the creature revealed razor sharp teeth that seemed to smile in delight whenever she struggled to have her eyes closed. The dark-haired woman tried to remain calm as possible, even if the hungry look it gave her made her want to run away but where to exactly?
Outside the home?
With the full moon stained with red? To walk down the roads that have been discarded by the people of the city to return to their beds and sleep like kings that were allowed breaks from their duties? Going outside was a big no for all three of them. They were essentially trapped by the outcomes of the unknown and trying to pick which one that had the most familiarity and highest survival rate.
Not to mention, it seemed to be running faster now when her eyes were closed. How was she supposed to fight something that she could physically see when temporarily blinded by her eyelids’ tiredness? She couldn’t. She knew that as the creature finally reached her spot, looming over her as its lean and veiny arms slowly descended to her form, revealing claws for hands as they were massive enough to be larger than her head. It slowly placed its hands around her face, slowly covering her eyelids, forcing her to look at it with her eyes closed, keeping her completely still like her very own paralysis demon as she couldn’t move at all. The cat slowly walked forward and sat down on the shoulders of the creature, as it carried Bonnie with them while still covering her eyes.
Luis was still looking around the room, avoiding the crimson moonlight that beamed near the windows, finding them eerie. He was confused when he heard no footsteps from Bonnie, the blonde turned back in panic and was internally grateful that she was still there with him. The gratefulness turned back into panic, when he noticed her still state with her eyes closed shut. He shook her body rapidly, yet nothing happened. She was unresponsive, he checked for a pulse.
It was faint but enough to tell him that she was alive. Yet whatever she was going through wasn’t something that he could easily snap her out of. The mortician groaned in annoyance, unable to figure out what was going on and Bonnie was basically comatose right now. He grumbled in annoyance while he placed her body on his back and continued to walk away from the windows of the room, finally reaching a room with covered windows and turning the torchlight once more. This was going to be the longest night of his life, not in a good way.
