Chapter 26- No Escape

The sharp crunch of gravel beneath polished shoes was the only sound as Anna stood frozen in the middle of the road. Her heart raced like a caged animal as the figure stepped into the beam of headlights, his face coming into sharp focus.

Jaden.

Anna stumbled back, her bare feet scraping against the asphalt, her chest tightening with panic. The very man she was trying to get away from was standing right in front of her, his dark eyes gleaming with quiet fury. The faint smirk curling his lips sent a shiver down Anna’s spine.

“Going somewhere, Anna?” Jaden’s voice was calm, almost lazy, but laced with a menace that sent terror coursing through Anna’s veins.

Anna spun on her heel, ready to dart back into the forest, but the shadows behind her came alive with movement. A second later, Jaden’s men emerged, their silhouettes cutting through the night like predators closing in on prey.

“No,” Anna breathed, shaking her head. “No, no, no!”
