The villa was cloaked in a heavy silence when Jaden returned, his presence filling the room as he closed the door behind him. Anna sat on the couch, her heart racing, the confrontation she knew she had to have bubbling under her skin. She watched him from the corner of her eye, her fingers tightly gripping the hem of her dress.
He didn’t bother looking at her. Instead, he strode inside with the air of a man who owned the world and answered to no one. His shoes clicked against the marble floor, and he loosened his tie with a deliberate slowness that made Anna’s blood boil.
“Where have you been?” she asked, her voice sharp, slicing through the tense silence. She was still standing in the living room, her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
Jaden didn’t even glance her way. “Out.”
