"Calvin, since you're my dear little brother, how about letting me eat first?"
Charlotte clutched the lunchbox tightly in her hands, her cheeks flushing red.
"I'll eat half first, then give the rest to you."
Charlotte didn't want to eat Calvin's leftovers.
That would make her feel like she had a lower status.
But if Calvin ate her leftovers, that would be different. It meant she still held the upper hand.
Although she sometimes stole bites from Calvin's food in the cafeteria,
that was a completely different situation.
Back then, they each had their own plates.
"Whatever, just don't spit in the food," Calvin said helplessly.
"Ugh! Disgusted by me?"
Charlotte fake-spitting dramatically toward the lunchbox, making Calvin cringe.
Once she was done fake-spitting,
Calvin chuckled and said,
"Charlotte, I asked you to reward me and you really did?"
That made Charlotte fume again, her chest rising and falling with anger.
"Alright, alright, I'll stop teasing you,"
Calvin said, finally putting on a serious face.
"Hmph, perv!"
Charlotte muttered, then scarfed down the food before handing over what was left to Calvin.
Calvin glanced inside. There was still about sixty to seventy percent left.
Even the chicken cutlet had only a few bites taken out of it.
He paused for a moment, surprised.
"Charlotte, what's the deal? Aren't you hungry?"
"My stomach's small, I'm dieting, and greasy food is too much for me. Lucky you,"
Charlotte waved her hand casually.
Calvin gave a simple "Oh," and finished what she left.
Clearly, Charlotte was trying to take care of Calvin since he was tall and strong.
she gave him the bigger portion.
After all, this was the same Charlotte who could devour eighty chicken nuggets on a crazy Thursday without batting an eye.No way she was dieting.
Looking at her well-rounded figure,Calvin sighed. She could be sharp-tongued and noisy, but she had a good heart.
Just as he was about to toss the empty box into the space below the platform block, he hesitated and held onto it.
"Why aren't you throwing it away?"
"Resources are scarce. We only have a little over a liter of water, one straw, and one seed. We should keep the lunchbox. It might come in handy someday."
He placed the empty lunchbox into his inventory.
Each person currently had twenty slots in their storage and each slot could hold up to a hundred identical items.
While the two of them chatted idly, waiting for the clouds,
two clouds slowly floated in from opposite sides.
"Calvin, let's sit back to back! Don't sit next to me! The clouds are separate!"
They had only fished six times so far, with fourteen tries remaining.
"I know!"
They shifted carefully, positioning themselves back-to-back.
With Charlotte no longer leaning on him,
Calvin felt a bit… off.
Sure, she wasn't exactly light…
But she was soft.So soft.
What a shame.A real shame.
But Calvin quickly shook off the thought.
Now wasn't the time!
Fishing time!
As a cloud neared Calvin,
[Cube Cloud: Fishing will randomly yield a cube.
(Cubes can be placed above, below, left, right, front, or back of the dirt cube. Connected cube can float.)]
Calvin quickly cast his line.
With only one cube to stand on, it was far too easy to fall.
Even going to the bathroom was a pain.
With two cubes, he and Charlotte could each have their own space.
Much better!
Though… holding a girl while fishing might never happen again.
He didn't think much more about it and kept fishing.
[Fishing Success: Acquired Wooden Plank Cube ×1
Can be dismantled into ten pieces of wood or placed directly.]
Calvin placed the plank to his right.
A soft glow appeared as the plank connected to the dirt cube.
From a 1×1×1 cube, it became a 1×2×1 structure.
He carefully moved over to the wooden side.
Charlotte caught a bag of candy.
It wasn't filling, but the sugar boost was still nice.
Before they could switch places, the clouds floated away.
The sound of Calvin's cube placement caught Charlotte's attention.
Seeing their space double from one square to two,her eyes welled up with tears.
"finally some space!"
"Calvin, don't turn around. I need to pee!"
Calvin nodded.
"Be quick, and don't pee on me!"
"Shut up!"
…
An agonizing moment passed.
Calvin said flatly,
"Now you turn around and don't peek."
"What are you doing?"
"I need to pee too. Or do you want to watch?"
Calvin gave her a blank look while standing on the plank. He hadn't gone all morning, same as Charlotte. He just didn't say anything.
"Ugh, who wants to look at that gross thing?"
Charlotte rolled her eyes and turned away.
She definitely didn't want to see anything nasty…
But curiosity got the best of her.
She peeked over her shoulder, craning her neck and froze.
Her face turned bright red. She was completely stunned.
But when Calvin was done and about to turn back, she quickly snapped her head forward.
Too much.Way too much.
Whoever ends up as Calvin's girlfriend… what a tragedy.Charlotte thought to herself with a silent groan.
But in their current situation, even if Calvin wanted a girlfriend, where would he find one?
After both of them relieved themselves, while waiting for clouds to drift by, Calvin and Charlotte chatted in the shared regional channel, watching everyone talk.
[Guys, I think I finally get the rules of this game. We just keep fishing for blocks and expanding our territory. But the spawn rate for blocks is way too low. So far, we only got two blocks. One for me and one for my sister. Ugh, no idea how we'll get through the night.]
[Be grateful. My partner and I are still stuck on a single block, and the prices for blocks are now the same as for water and food. Didn't you know?]
[Yeah, this kind of survival is pure torture. There are no toilets on the ground at all. We're basically camels now.]
[Ugh, forget toilets! I dropped my glasses off the platform. I can't see anything now!]
Most people were complaining, but a lucky few were doing well:
[For real? I just fished up ten platforms, and my partner got ten roast duck rice meals. We've got a 3×3 layout now. We can just sleep on the platforms at night!]
[So jealous! Dude, your luck is unreal!]
[That's nothing. My sister fished up a talent on her third try. She gets a random blueprint every day! We're selling them and living off the profits!]
Not bad.
Aside from basic block, food, and water resources, there were also blueprints!
Blueprints could be used to craft all kinds of useful tools.
But they were expensive, usually costing two or three portions of food.
Of course, that's because the drop rate for blueprints was so low.
Seeing how lucky everyone else was one fishing attempt yielding what would take her ten. Charlotte scowled in frustration.
"Damn it, our luck is terrible. We've barely gotten anything, and there haven't even been many clouds!"
"Well, it's not the worst. At least we have food and water. There are plenty of people going hungry right now."
They chatted idly as clouds continued drifting by.
After finishing their last twelve fishing attempts, they gained a few things:
Wood ×5! (Ten pieces of wood can be combined into one wooden cube)
Two rolls of toilet paper!
Three packs of compressed biscuits!
Five sausages!
And...
A blueprint for a water condenser!
Charlotte was the one who pulled it!
She held the blueprint up proudly, staring triumphantly at Calvin, clearly waiting for him to praise her.
Calvin took the blueprint and froze.
[Water Condenser: Condenses water vapor from the air, yielding about 1,000 ml of water per day.
Build Requirements: Stone (0/10), Iron (0/10), Energy Crystal (0/1)]
This time, the requirement was an energy crystal instead of an energy core.
Both were extremely rare items!
"Seriously, Charlotte, your luck is insane! If we can build this, we won't have to worry about water anymore! Too bad we don't have the materials."
"So what? Tomorrow I'll copy it and sell a copy for a high price on the market. We'll rake in a ton of resources."
Charlotte swayed her head smugly, then glanced at Calvin with disdain, as if mocking his stupidity.
She looked arrogant and full of herself.
Calvin stared at her and was reminded of the arrogant little brat she was before they crossed over.
"What's with that face? You think I'm beneath you, huh? You damn brat!"
He grabbed Charlotte's cheeks and pulled them in all sorts of directions!
Her face turned red and sore from the tugging.
"You dumbass! So what if I look down on you?"
She didn't back down either, calling Calvin a noob again and again, scratching his arms with her nails.
The two of them kept bickering and roughhousing, nearly falling off the platform in the process.
