Calvin's Care

"Alright, alright, Calvin, stop fooling around!"

Charlotte rubbed her reddened cheeks, giving Calvin a resentful look.

That sudden movement almost caused Calvin to fall, which in turn scared her so much she nearly fell too. They almost ended up dying together.

Just imagining dying with Calvin in the same place made Charlotte annoyed.

"Wasn't that a reward for you? Who told you to fish the water condenser? That's insanely lucky!"

Calvin chuckled.

"Be careful not to laugh yourself into trouble! What would I do if you actually fell?"

Charlotte suddenly looked serious.

"Then you should jump with me. If I die, we die together!"

"Pfft! Who wants to die with you!"

Night had fallen. A full moon hung high in the sky.

After bickering, they discussed how to sleep that night.

"How are we supposed to sleep on this two-square-meter platform?"

Charlotte looked helpless.

It was already cramped for one person, hard and uncomfortable. Now there were two of them!

"Why don't you lie on the bottom, and I'll use you as a pillow?"

Calvin smirked as he glanced at her rounded figure.

"???"

"Get lost, you idiot! You think you're worthy of sleeping on me?"

Charlotte spat at him in disgust.

But soon, she was considering the possibility.

Trading for more platforms was out of the question, the prices were outrageous.

Many people feared falling off just like them, and there was no guarantee they'd fish up more food or water tomorrow.

Exchanging water for a platform was too expensive. Even if they got one more block, a three-block setup was still unstable. They'd need two more to make it 2×2 for safety.

"So... you want to sleep on me?"

Calvin frowned.

Given the situation, lying down together would definitely risk falling.

Unless Calvin laid at the bottom and Charlotte rested on top of him.

Even then, the chance of falling was high.

The safest option was to sit back-to-back and nap.

"Sleep on you?"

Charlotte's thoughts went astray. She glanced at the terrifying thing she'd just seen and, thinking of her small frame, started trembling...

Wait, why am I even thinking about this?

Charlotte shook her head.

"Let's just sit. It's safer."

She suggested.

"Fine, but don't wake me if I fall asleep."

They both sat on the platform, quietly waiting for morning to come.

At this point, many people probably didn't dare sleep.

After all, on such a tiny platform, even turning over or stretching a leg could send you falling.

Let alone sharing it with someone else.

"Hey, hey, loser, let's chat a bit?"

Charlotte poked Calvin's soft side, yawning.

"About what? We've been talking all day."

"Have you ever had a girlfriend?"

"No."

...

An awkward silence followed.

Charlotte suddenly burst out laughing.

"Stupid loser! I knew you've never had a girlfriend!"

"Have you ever had a boyfriend then?"

"No... not really..."

"Then what are you bragging about, you little brat?"

"Hmph! At least I'm cute and sexy! It's not that I can't find one. I just don't want to!"

Calvin glanced at her chest.

"Yeah, sexy indeed. Good thing you didn't get a boyfriend, or I wouldn't have been matched with you."

Calvin suddenly slung an arm around her shoulder and grinned.

"What are you doing, putting your arm around me like that?"

Charlotte gave him a look of disdain but didn't push him away.

After their argument,

maybe because it was late at night and emotions were high,

Charlotte suddenly asked sadly,

"Calvin, do you think our parents are still alive? I miss my mom and dad."

Her words hit Calvin right in the heart.

He was an orphan, quiet and withdrawn in class, with no real friends.

Besides his aunt, the only person close to him was this annoying little girl.

"My parents died when I was very young. My aunt raised me,"

Calvin said calmly.

Charlotte, caught in a sad mood, froze.

She had no idea about any of this.

Looking at Calvin's face, she saw a quiet loneliness in his expression.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know…" she said softly.

"It's okay. It happened a long time ago. But you, what are you worried about? Your parents are adults. They'll handle things way better than we could. And what if they ended up in the same area as us?"

Calvin said gently, seriously looking at Charlotte.

Charlotte met his gaze. In that moment, it felt like there was only the two of them in the world.

She looked at his handsome features and thought back to that morning, when they were fishing together and she sat in his lap.

Her eyes grew dreamy, her mind drifting away.

Maybe… surviving with someone as good-looking as Calvin wasn't such a bad thing…

Thinking this, she blushed and lowered her head, only to realize she couldn't even see her own toes…

Soon, sleepiness took over.

Naturally, she leaned her head on Calvin's shoulder and fell into a deep sleep.

It was a sign of trust.

Calvin looked at her helplessly.

"You're really something, you little troublemaker."

Though he complained, he didn't push her away.

Instead, he carefully laid her head on his lap.

"Careful not to fall,"

he murmured, staring at her delicate, lovely face, trying not to fall asleep himself.

With a more comfortable position, Charlotte slept even more soundly.

…

The next morning,

the sun slowly rose in the sky.

Charlotte opened her sleepy eyes and realized she had been sleeping on Calvin's lap.

Calvin was calmly watching her.

"Eh… where am I?"

Charlotte still hadn't fully processed what was happening and thought she was dreaming.

But as memories of the time-travel and the fear of falling returned, she quickly sat up.

"You stupid jerk, why was I sleeping on your lap?"

"What, you think I wanted to? I was making sure you didn't fall, alright? I didn't sleep at all last night!"

Calvin flicked her forehead in annoyance.

"You idiot! Who told you to do that?!"

Charlotte blushed.

She couldn't accept sleeping so intimately next to Calvin.

Though she had forgotten how peacefully she'd fallen asleep to his masculine scent.

But looking at Calvin's dark circles, she understood how he'd taken care of her all night.

"…Fine. Then how about tonight you sleep on my lap instead?"

Charlotte crossed her arms and said, not sounding friendly at all.

"No need for that. If we have enough cubes and stay careful, we won't fall."

Calvin shook his head and teased,

"Besides, what if you fart in your sleep?"

"Get lost!"

Charlotte exploded.

She had been kind enough to offer him a better sleep, and he turned her down with such a disgusting joke!

"You idiot, get me some water!"

After sleeping all night, she was dehydrated and her mouth was dry.

"What did you just call me?"

"… "

After a two-minute inner struggle,

Charlotte forced herself to put on a pitiful expression.

"Alright, alright… good brother~"

Calvin handed her the last few hundred milliliters of water from the day before.

Charlotte beamed and gulped it down,

leaving half for Calvin.

After rehydrating, Calvin went off to relieve himself awkwardly.

After all, everyone needs to use the bathroom in the morning.

During that time,

Charlotte secretly peeked at Calvin while he was doing his "business."

But Calvin caught her.

...

Damn it. So embarrassing…

Charlotte wanted to die from shame!
