Leo’s POV
I drove with one hand on the wheel, the other resting lazily against the open window, letting the evening breeze slap some clarity into me.
The road back to PIRB was quiet, but my head wasn’t.
Alicia.
The girl had been on my mind ever since I saw her at the police station. Even when I met her a few moments ago, I noticed nothing unusual about her. Actually, she seemed far too simple and sweet to be associated with crime or anything supernatural.
But then, what was that weird static on the vampire detector when I first encountered her? The anomaly nagged at me, as if something essential didn’t fit—like a missing piece hidden beneath her innocent facade.
She reminded me of the kind of people who slip through cracks—too soft for the world, too invisible for justice. People like her weren’t built for confrontation, which made those hospital records and assault charges even harder to swallow. Either she was masterfully faking everything... or something wasn’t adding up.
