Chapter 20 Christine's Counterattack

Alicia POV

“Have you heard anything yet?” Kayla asked, stepping into our sleek kitchen.

My eyes lifted with furrowed brows. “From who?”

Since I intended to make myself one, I gathered the familiar elements of our morning ritual—the earthy aroma of freshly ground beans, the quiet hiss of the coffee pot as it began to heat and the dull thud as I set down two mugs.

Kayla came closer, sauntering over and dropping onto a stool behind the island counter, her elbow propped lazily as she watched me move. “From Leo, obviously,” she says, a teasing lilt in her voice. “I’m psyched to see what new content you come out with. As a certified Leo-Licia stan—and yes that is your ship name now, I need to know. That roadside incident is still blowing up.”

I leaned my back against the cool granite countertop, waiting as the rich scent of the brewing coffee filled the air. “It’s a lot of attention—way more than I ever expected from a dumb breakdown.”
