Leo’s POV

I stepped through the hospital’s main doors just as sunlight spilled through the long corridor windows, cutting the bland white hallway into patches of gold and shadow. The warmth should’ve felt comforting. It didn’t. Not when you were here to confirm whether a brawl had supernatural fingerprints.

A nurse glanced at me from behind the desk. I gave her the kind of polite smile that said, Don’t worry, I’m not the paperwork kind. My coat stayed buttoned, badge tucked. I wasn’t here on official PIRB duty.

I scanned the lobby with quick eyes. Nothing unusual. No sudden chills, no strange glows, no bodies twitching behind glass. But the hairs on the back of my neck hadn’t settled. That gut-level hum—the one that always showed up before trouble—hadn’t shut up since last night.
