Elina’s POV
I had come to a few conclusions. I was being tailed. Whether by an entity or human, it was hard to tell, but the presence pressed too heavy to ignore now, like a shadow breathing down my neck.
Whoever it was didn’t seem to plan interference, so my best bet was ignoring them and escaping. As long as they didn’t ruin my plans, there was nothing to worry about.
Now, back to my escape mission.
The hallway stretched quiet, its silence daring me to move. It didn’t seem like anyone would emerge, so here was my chance. I glanced at the crumpled map in my hand, tracing the lines with a trembling finger. The stairwell was my best shot!
Picking the elevators would draw attention; they were the guards’ favorite patrol spot, not to mention, crawling with cameras.
As for the stairs, the cleaners had swept through earlier, leaving the air sharp with bleach. It was unlikely they’d return to a finished chore.
