Emily felt her mind in disarray, unwilling to believe what she had just heard.

"Impossible. Why didn't Asher tell me?"

The nurse glanced at her. "Well, you didn't ask. Weren't you just fretting about your current husband?"

"Here, these are your darling's scans. You can see for yourself that both kidneys are intact."

Emily walked to the window, comparing Asher's and David's test results.

If it had been neurotoxin from the rainforest, it would have caused rapid kidney failure, almost complete deterioration.

"No wonder he said his sins were too great. So this is why."

Emily suddenly remembered the night I had asked her for her body.
