A Vessel

June

"If I am your dad, as you have claimed, then you would stop this nonsense!" His voice vibrated through the walls. I flinched, just by hearing his words echo through my bones. I could say I was surprised, nothing I had ever done was of importance to him, except my marriage to Axel. Dad… Father benefitted a lot from all the donations Axel had always sent to improve the hospital's status.

"I don't know what you are talking about, dad?" I forced my words into lies as I drowned a glass of wine. My feet faltered, each step I took in reaching for that sense of freedom, I lost it. I lost it so much that it hurt. His eyes were filled with disdain, hatefulness. For all the times, I defied the orders. Yet, there I was, still living in his shadows.
