"Our casualties are minimal. Only twelve men." Asher reported to Hazel and the others as they watched the dead corpses being packed outside the city— fed to the hungry hills and the thirsty mountain.
Iruca's expression turned sour upon hearing that and she silently gritted her teeth.
"They're still people nonetheless."
Asher eyes her briefly but ignored her comment. Turning to Ruobing's corpse— at least what was left of it, he said in a flat tone.
"Their betrayal was unexpected. Even more surprising is that they're demons."
The sentence silenced everyone as the atmosphere turned grim. Rika's face was particularly dark as she hatefully glared at the corpse— after all, she was the victim of their plot.
"I'm sorry for the trouble they've caused us. It was all my fault. I should have trusted my gut." Liam said with a self-deprecating smile on his face.
