Chapter 24 SMALL FLICKER OF SATISFACTION!

LEONARD'S POV:

The second recess felt like a cruel joke. I couldn’t believe this was happening—everything had been going perfectly, Judge Kingston was playing his part, and Liora looked ready to crumble. But then Daisy, of all people, had decided to play the hero. What the hell was she thinking?

As I paced the narrow hallway outside the courtroom, my mind raced with thoughts of damage control. Fredrick was useless; his panicked expression told me all I needed to know about how screwed we were.

I shot a glance at the courtroom door, contemplating storming in and confronting Daisy myself. But what would that accomplish? It was too late—whatever was in that envelope was already in the judge’s hands. All I could do now was hope that Fredrick could pull off a miracle.
