"Th courtroom went quiet yet again and there, came in Catherine, the lady who faked to be related with my family.
"She looks uptight and confused as she walked inside in a hurry.
There, standing in the doorway, was my father too.
He hadn’t been in the courtroom since the first recess, and I’d resigned myself to the idea that he didn’t care enough to be here. But now, as he walked in with an air of authority that seemed to command the entire room, I realized how wrong I’d been.
He moved with purpose, his presence radiating power. Dressed in a sharp suit, he looked every bit the influential man he was, and the murmurs in the room confirmed what I already knew—my father was not someone to be taken lightly.
I guess no one noticed his arrival the first time they got in with mum.
My mother stood up, as she reached out to him. He gave her a small nod, but his focus remained on the front of the courtroom, on the magistrate who had been so dismissive of my case.
