Aubrey’s pov ;
Ryder just stood there, silent as a tomb, his eyes locked onto mine. The whole room seemed to hold its breath, waiting for the inevitable explosion.
Davidson’s gaze bore into Ryder, demanding an explanation, but all I could focus on was the tension hanging between Ryder and me.
This was it. This was the moment I had been working toward, the culmination of my revenge.
Ryder was exposed, his dirty little scheme revealed to the very man he was trying to deceive. The deal was as good as dead. Davidson would break off all ties, and Ryder’s reputation would take a hit that would be hard to recover from.
So why wasn’t I feeling the satisfaction I should be?
I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, my palms slick with sweat. I should be reveling in this victory, basking in the sweet taste of revenge. But instead, all I felt was a gnawing unease deep in my gut, twisting and turning until it made me almost sick.
