Chapter 58 He's disappointed

The ride back to the house was suffocatingly silent. Not a single word passed between us.

I kept glancing at Ryder, waiting for him to say something—anything—but he just stared straight ahead, his face unreadable. I couldn't stand the quiet, but I also didn't have the nerve to break it. My heart was pounding in my chest, a mix of frustration and something I refused to name.

When we finally pulled up to the house, Ryder parked the car with a sharp jerk, then got out, slamming the door so hard it made me flinch.

The sound echoed in the night, and for a moment, I just sat there, stunned. What the hell is his problem? He's supposed to be angry, shouting, and questioning me. Instead, he is…silent. The calmness that should have been a relief only made me more uneasy.

I got out of the car and hurried after him, frowning as I watched his retreating back. There was something off about all of this.
