"What are you implying?" Nicholas asked, his tone growing dangerously quiet.
Emily faced him with an emotionless expression. "What I mean is clear. Do you really think that just because you put on a show of defending me, I wouldn’t suspect you?"
Nicholas’s expression darkened. "Emily…"
Emily cut him off, her gaze cold and unyielding. "Besides Lily, you’re the only one who knew I went to the bar, and Lily would never do something like this."
Nicholas’s face turned icy as her words sank in. "Are you saying it was me?"
Emily nodded confidently. "Shouldn’t I be suspicious of you? I mean, I’ve upset the person you love. It’s only natural to assume you’d take revenge on her behalf."
Fury flashed in Nicholas’s eyes. "Do you think I’m that kind of person?"
Emily didn’t answer, her silence speaks volumes. The mixture of anger and helplessness welled up inside Nicholas. She had never trusted him. "If I wanted revenge, why would I save you?" he countered.
