Emily pressed her lips together, her gaze cold and calculating. So they had decided to back her into a corner, leaving her no path to retreat. “Understood,” she said tightly, her tone clipped as she hung up.

She gripped the phone until her knuckles turned white, her lips curling in a sardonic smile.

Nicholas stepped out of the bathroom, immediately noticing the tense look on Emily's face. "What’s wrong?" he asked, concern edging into his voice.

Emily shook her head, brushing it off. "Nothing. I’m just tired. I’ll go and rest." Without another word, she turned and left the room, her expression unreadable.

Watching her go, Nicholas clenched his jaw. She was clearly hiding something from him.
