She paused, her eyes downcast, unsure how to respond at first.

She knew he hadn’t mentioned the child, but that didn’t change the reality of their situation. After a moment, Emily raised her eyes to meet his. "There's no need. This time it was just an accident. Besides, eventually, I’ll have to live alone after we get divorced."

Her voice was steady, but deep inside, she felt a pang of sadness. No matter how much she appreciated him saving her, she knew there was no future for them.

The child changed everything for her, but she couldn't let that trap her in a life with Nicholas. She had to think clearly, even in her weakened state.

Nicholas’s expression darkened slightly, displeasure evident in his furrowed brow. He didn’t like hearing the word "divorce," especially now. His tone became more commanding, leaving little room for argument.

"Move back first," he said, his voice hardening. "We’ll talk about the divorce later."
