Chapter 77

"Have your parents always treated you like this? Calling and shouting at you all the time?" Nicholas asked, his tone edged with concern as he sat in his wheelchair, indicating he'd overheard her conversation.

Emily calmly pocketed her phone, ignoring his question. "Mr. Sinclair, I'll freshen up, and then I'll take you to breakfast." She began to walk past him, but he reached out and gripped her wrist firmly.

"Emily, answer me!" he demanded.

She frowned, pulling her hand free. "What does it have to do with you?"

"I'm your husband!" he insisted, frustration apparent in his voice.

Emily’s gaze turned mocking. "Mr. Sinclair, I’ve been ignored by the White family my entire life. You’ve known that. Why the sudden act?"

Nicholas’s face stiffened, but he couldn’t find the words to reply. Emily turned away, dismissing his reaction, and went to finish washing up. When she returned, Nicholas was still in the same position, his head lowered, deep in thought. However, she paid him no mind.
