Luna hesitated, unsure if she should say anything further. Liam stepped in, nodding toward the door. “You’ve done your job. You can leave now.”
Luna hurried out, mumbling a quick “Thank you, Mrs. Sinclair” before disappearing from the office.
As soon as the door closed, Emily pushed the container aside and leaned back in her chair, rubbing her temples.
As soon as the door closed, Emily let out a sharp breath, her frustration spilling over.
Moments later, Liam returned, standing quietly by the desk.
Her phone buzzed, pulling her attention away. It was a text from Nicholas:
"You didn’t eat enough. Don’t make me send someone again."
Her grip on the phone tightened as she read the message. A bitter smile played on her lips.
“Of course, he’s watching,” she muttered to herself. Why can’t he just leave her alone?
Liam chose his words carefully. “Maybe he’s trying to show he cares… in his own way?”
