What lies beyond the mist

The beam surged toward Kael—unrelenting, unyielding.

He couldn't move. He couldn't even open his eyes anymore. The light was blinding, and the weight of Selene's command kept his limbs paralyzed.

Then—

BOOM.

Two deafening blasts shook the ground, splitting the silence like a divine judgment. Kael's eyes fluttered open, sluggish and heavy, and there—standing before him—was a figure, with a long white cloak fluttering behind him like wings of serenity.

Valdren.

His sword, still glowing, had cleaved the devastating attack in half. The split beam struck the ground and the wall behind them, tearing through stone like paper.

But Kael saw something else.

His master—calm, noble Valdren—began to change. His back bulged. His muscles rippled. His form twisted, grew. His hair fell away like dead leaves in a storm.

'You too, Master?' Kael thought, rage building in his chest. 'Damn it all…'
