Chapter 40: The Rabbit Burrow

"Right, just as we were in a formation yesterday. Everyone, line up!" Edmund said, and then waited until everyone got in their spot. He looked at the cave's entrance right in front of him, and then gulped.

This was it. He could make a name for himself in this cave, or crash and burn. With people dying on his watch. He had heard more than one leader of a platoon giving up the adventurer's life, after they failed to protect those who trusted them.

"Bro? Come on, let us go," Emily said, and nudged her brother forward. He took a step towards the dark cave, and then another. His legs carrying him into the darkness with a speed his brain protested with.

Only for Edmund to slip on the too slick stone, and stumble. He caught himself before he could fall, but wondered if he would have lost every bit of his self-esteem, if he had fallen.
