Julian
My time with the human girl was enough to prove her innocence. My wolf couldn’t sense an ounce of threat from her and I doubt the Alpha did not know that.
“I had the time to get to know the girl.” I admitted to him as we walked back towards the packhouse where it was already time for dinner. I met him while he was roving the territory, doing his usual checkup. We have been talking about my mission until I told him about my encounter with her.
Truthfully, it was not just a simple or accidental encounter. I had the purpose of befriending her and observing whether she had malicious intentions. I had found none. I did not sense even one lie from her. That or she is a good liar.
“I noticed.” The Alpha replied.
“You do know that she’s innocent, right?” I asked, stopping my steps. He followed suit.
“I will not let her go no matter what you say.” He said firmly. “I already tolerated her freedom here. What more do you want?”
“Give her a chance?” It was more of a question. I was not sure myself what to do with her. What I do know is that she’s not the same as her family. She’s different. My wolf agreed to that. My morals could not fathom hurting a faultless soul.
He wasn’t able to answer when we reached the kitchen’s front door and opened it for him.
“Julian!” I heard a squeal. I turned to the source of the voice. It was the little human girl. However, I could not react back.
“It’s Beta to you.” The Alpha growled behind, taking dominant steps forward to enter the kitchen.
“Alpha.” Everyone in the kitchen bowed as soon as their Alpha’s presence. Nasrin, the human girl, flinched before hiding behind Rose. Although she bowed, it was only out of unadulterated fear. I saw her grab Rose’s dress, clenching it between her fist while trembling. I turned my attention to the scowling Alpha.
“Alpha, the dinner is almost served. Please, you can wait in the dining room. You too, Beta.” Rose always talks to the Alpha with respect whenever other people are around but when there’s only the two of them or even I included, she talks to us like a grandmother would. She would right our wrongs and scold us when needed– just like when she found out about what he did to the human. She’s one of the few who believes the girl’s innocent.
He sauntered towards Rose just as I closed the door before standing behind him. “Thank you, Rose.” He waves his hand, signaling the whole kitchen staff to continue whatever they are doing. Even so, Nasrin did not move an inch. Her eyes were clenched shut as she stood frozen behind Rose.
“It’s always an honor to serve you, Alpha.” She let out a proud smile. It was no secret that the whole pack admired and respected the Alpha. He was their pride and joy, especially that he was the greatest alpha they could ever have just like his father.
“I truly am thankful, especially that you have the time and effort to make something extra for the pack. The desserts and pastries you make are highly appreciated. They seem to always look forward to it. They are delicious.” I noticed his tone had softened as he complimented the kitchen staff. I, myself, was addicted to the taste. I looked forward to it, too, after I finished my meal. It has become my reason to eat on time. I noticed that everyone was keen on it, especially the warriors who’ve had a rough day.
Rose beamed at the Alpha’s praise. “Of course! It’s all thanks to this girl.” She suddenly pulled the poor girl behind her and dragged her to her front. It was a surprise.
She looked up at him in just a second and looked down again, a blush forming her cheeks and then she’s back as a scaredy cat. I tilted my head to the side, studying her.
“I see.” The Alpha coldly replied. He then turned and walked towards the direction of the dining room. Her shoulder sagged in relief as soon as he was out of sight.
“Good job.” I said to her. Rose gave me a proud smile but the girl did not look at me anymore.

“You’re distracted.” Caleb remarked, stopping our training.
“I’m sorry.”
He reaches his hand on my hair, picking up a dry leaf that got stuck. “You’re getting better, Rin. But you’re not focused right now. You fell a lot of times earlier, too. You know how much the Gamma will take pleasure in your downfall.”
“I… I met your Alpha last night.” I said, hugging myself as the thought of him made me nervous and scared. “I guess I just feel unnerved. It was the first time I’ve seen him…” Since the night he admitted his plans to me, his fury, the pain he inflicted on me and the way he forced me to pleasure him.
Caleb placed his hand on my shoulder, comforting me. “Hey, it’s okay. Think about it. Instead of putting you to cells, he lets you roam free and even gives you the time to train with me. Think about that, Rin. The Alpha…” He exhales. “Everyone here is just hurt and victims of the attack. I hope that you understand that isn’t easy for them, too.”
“I know.”
“Perhaps you can prove to them that you are not what they think you are.” He lets out a small smile. “And there’s me who believes in your innocence.”
I returned a smile. “Thank you, Caleb.” My eyebrows knitted together questioningly. “Why, though? Why do you believe in me? Don’t you feel hate or anger towards me?”
He withdrew his hand as he looked at me hesitantly while rubbing the back of his neck. “I guess I can see you in a different light considering my family is intact. We weren’t exactly harmed. Although I do understand their pain and anger, it’s only reasonable to feel that way. I guess it’s why I’m much more level headed and I can still see logic. I know they’re your family. Naturally, I should hate you but my wolf can’t seem to find something hateful about you. There are times that I feel guilty about it even more so that I befriended you."
