He withdrew his hand as he looked at me hesitantly while rubbing the back of his neck. “I guess I can see you in a different light considering my family is intact. We weren’t exactly harmed. Although I do understand their pain and anger, it’s only reasonable to feel that way. I guess it’s why I’m much more level headed and I can still see logic. I know they’re your family. Naturally, I should hate you but my wolf can’t seem to find something hateful about you. There are times that I feel guilty about it even more so that I befriended you.”
I was shocked at his confession. It made me feel even more guilty for what my family did to this pack. I’ve been feeling that way ever since their Alpha told me about what they have done. I realized then that I didn’t know my family well even a little. I mean, how could I? After all, I was a neglected child. I guess it was why I had believed him rather than my family themselves. I didn’t know that they're capable of killing someone or they're really hunters but something told me that night that he’s telling the truth.
“I guess what I’m saying is… you can’t blame them, you know. And I’m sorry if you’re the brunt of this.” His mouth opened to say something but he held back and I’m sure he’s going to say something that would hurt me. He stayed quiet instead.
“Yeah, I don’t blame them, especially your Alpha. I’m just really scared of him.”
“He’s a good guy, Rin. He just really cares for this pack. He loves us and what more to his family. Werewolves love their pack– only second to mates though. But enough of this. Come on, I’ll show you something.” He grins before turning around towards the endless forest.
“Where are we going?” I asked, following him.
“Just come on.”
—
“Whoohohoo!” I screamed at the top of my lungs as Caleb weaved through the forest in his wolf form. My arms are spread wide, welcoming the breeze that touches my skin.
“Hold on tight to me, Rin!” Concern etched in his voice as he spoke to me through my mind. I recently learned that werewolves could speak through their minds in their wolf form. It’s called the mindlink.
“This is amazing, Caleb!” I exclaimed, ignoring his warning.
“I’m going to stop running if you don’t hold on!” He chastised.
“Fine.” I pout as I grab hold of his neck. It didn’t deter me from having fun riding his massive beast. His wolf is big and beautiful. When he shifted, he was as tall as him in human form. His fur was reddish brown with hazel eyes. I didn’t like how he licked my face though. The drool was eww.
We spent the entire afternoon running around the forest.. I even played fetch with Rex, the name of his wolf. He wasn’t happy though. He growled at me but I laughed it off. He knew that was what we do with dogs. I enjoyed everything the whole time. I forgot about what I was worried or scared about. I have never been this free. To top it off, I could no longer feel any chest pain. I feel stronger.
Nothing could ruin this moment for me, I thought.
“Where are we going? This isn't the direction to the packhouse.” I asked but still followed him anyway.
“Just shut up and follow me, okay.” He said with a smile. Not a moment later, we reached in front of a small house. I already figured out whose house it was.
“Welcome to my humble abode.” I followed him when he opened the front door and stepped inside the house.
“Rose is going to look for me, you know. She’s going to freak out.”
“It’ll be fine. Rose knows you’re with me.”
“You asked permission?”
“No. I always see her looking out for you. She would constantly check out for you during training. I don’t doubt she doesn’t know that you’re with me. And besides, isn’t she lenient with you?”
“Really?” It did sound like Rose would usually do. She looks out for the staff in the kitchen, too. I guess it’s natural for her to be so kind.
“Mom, Dad, we have a very important guest tonight!” Caleb yells which made my eyes widen.
“What?!” Is he going to introduce me to his parents? Isn’t that a bad idea?
“Darling, in the kitchen!” A woman’s voice yelled back. Caleb dragged me towards the kitchen disregarding my horrified look. When we reached the kitchen, his mom and dad were serving the food on the table and preparing the utensils. For a moment, I noticed Caleb inherited his mother’s features more.
“Mom, Dad, this is Rin. Rin, this is my mom and dad.”
“Oh, the infamous Rin.” Her mom remarked, grinning.
I turned to Caleb, tilting my head with a questioning look. “He talks about you almost everyday.” His dad commented. “Cirrus Sereno, and my wife, Korin.” He introduced themselves while we shook hands.
“Nasrin. Rin for short.” I said, smiling at them. “Nice to meet you, sir, ma’am.”
“Oh, no, you cannot call us that. Please call our names. We would appreciate that. After all, our son thinks highly of you.” Korin said. She then told us to take a seat since dinner is ready.
I stood frozen agape. I’d never thought I’d be welcomed here. I doubt they don’t know who I really am. I looked up at Caleb who was also looking down at me with a smile. I could tell in his eyes that he knew what I was thinking. I was just so shocked.
The dinner went on like I’ve known them for a long time. The conversation was so natural. It took time for me to wake up and realize that what was happening was real. His parents are as friendly as him. I guess I get where his personality came from. And it seemed Caleb really did talk about me a lot. The topic was all about me and it was something that I’ve already told him. I should be mad because he was such a blabbermouth but I didn’t. Instead, I felt happy about it.
