“I’m sorry.”
“I really thought you’re my friend, Caleb.” Pain etched in my voice as I spoke those words. We both stopped walking. I could feel his eyes on me, searching for any sign of understanding or forgiveness.
“Of course, I’m your friend, Rin. That’s why it’s hard for me to tell you the truth because I know it will hurt you. I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
I turned to look at him, trying to read the sincerity in his eyes. “Why did you agree to train me?”
I didn’t like the way he inhaled so deeply. It feels like he was readying himself to tell me those words that would surely hurt me.
“Because Katarina told me that you must gain your strength for your shift. Believe me, I was hesitant at first but you were so adamant to get strong for yourself that I truly wanted to help you. And despite what our Alpha or even Gamma decided, I truly wanted to be your friend. I’m so sorry that I didn’t tell you this sooner.”
