Stalking Your Mate

Lucan

“Julian.” I greeted my Beta as soon as I stepped inside my office. He rises to his feet and greets me back. I couldn’t ignore the frown on his face and the scrunched of his nose when I passed by him. “What?” I asked.

“Your scent. It's changed.”

I tensed. I then took a seat on the chair behind my desk. “What news did you want to break?” I asked instead, ignoring his remark. I saw a hint of a smile he was trying to suppress, appearing a bit on his lips.

His face then became solemn when he started to speak. “On the way back, I suggested that a few of my men run with me. Do a bit of recon. I guess I was right to follow my instinct. We met a couple of hunters miles up north. We followed them for a while and observed where they were heading. We heard them talking. They were heading this way. They plan to camp just near our borders. Unfortunately, they don’t know yet what their leader is planning.”

I scowled. “What of the hunters heading this way?”
