Chapter 100 – The Hidden Legacy of the Tower

After placing the final magic book into the storage chamber he constructed with space magic, Ethan Hayes dusted off his hands.

It might have seemed like a simple solution to the problem, but in truth, it was only a temporary fix.

In this world, space magic had been nerfed to the point of being practically useless. That was being generous.

In his previous world, whether in novels or anime, space magic was absolutely terrifying.

There was even a phrase that captured this perfectly: "Time reigns supreme, but space rules all."

Indeed, time magic here had proven its dominance—Julius Novachrono was the perfect example.

But space magic...

The spatial storage he created had to be constantly maintained with mana.

It didn't persist independently once formed.

If his mana flow was interrupted, the entire space would collapse—

And everything inside would vanish into chaotic spatial turbulence.

That's why spatial mages rarely used it for item storage, especially during combat.

Trying to fight while maintaining a spell that could collapse any moment? Unthinkable.

"I really need to study space magic properly someday. It shouldn't be this weak..."

Frowning, Ethan stepped out of the Magic Book Tower.

This trip had been fruitful—he'd finally solved the issue that prevented him from using other magic types at full power.

But it also raised new problems.

The words that old man said before leaving—about fate and destiny—kept echoing in his mind.

"Zephyra, come out!"

Summoning the wind spirit, Zephyra appeared in her human form before him.

She was an ancient elemental, different from the current era's Sylph. She knew much more.

"What's up, Master~!"

She playfully floated around Ethan, weaving up and down, side to side.

He didn't care before when she was smaller, but now she looked like a toddler—about the size of a three-year-old.

And for a moment, Ethan thought he glimpsed her white undergarments...

Ahem.

"Zephyra, do you recognize this place?"

Clearing his thoughts, Ethan pointed toward the towering structure.

At first glance, Zephyra didn't recall anything. But the more she looked at it, the more memories surfaced.

"Isn't that the Divine Tower?"

Divine Tower? Wasn't it just the Magic Book Tower?

Hearing that name, Ethan felt like he was about to uncover something big.

"Keep going," he urged. "Tell me everything you know."

Zephyra nodded, taking a moment to gather her thoughts.

"In ancient times, this continent was home to a hundred different races.

Humans were the weakest of them all—often hunted as blood sacrifices.

My master back then wasn't human, but a member of the Heaven-Eater Clan, one of the top three strongest races.

They were born with a devouring magic that could consume anything."

Ethan nodded to himself. So I was right all along...

He had always wondered why the Clover Kingdom seemed to only have humans and spirits.

Following typical fantasy tropes, there should've been beastfolk, goblins, dwarves...

It wasn't that they never existed—they had simply vanished, erased by time.

"There was constant war among the races, and many went extinct.

Then one day, the Divine Tower descended from the heavens, right onto this land."

Zephyra looked at the tower again, a soft look of nostalgia in her eyes—like she had returned to the distant past.

"The Divine Tower housed countless magic books, just like now.

But here's the thing—only humans could obtain them."

Ethan understood immediately.

Humans used that advantage to rise and ultimately wipe out the other races, becoming the dominant rulers.

Even without Zephyra explaining it, it followed the typical novel logic perfectly.

And indeed, it happened just as he guessed—

Humans and spirits eventually joined forces and took control of the continent.

Now, the spirits were gone—

Leaving humans as the sole rulers.

"So this thing's been around since ancient times?"

Ethan inhaled sharply.

He might not know how old the old tower keeper was—

But he did ask Zephyra her age once.

Twenty thousand years.

Let that sink in.

He was only 17!

"No wonder that old man could sneak up on me without a sound.

He's probably stronger than Julius!"

Looking back, Ethan felt a chill.

He had once believed that, worst case, he could at least run if things turned south.

But now... if that man had wanted him dead, he wouldn't have lasted a second.

Twenty thousand years.

"Who would've thought this world hides such a huge secret boss...

But what does he want?"

There was no such thing as love or hate without cause.

There had to be a reason for building the tower and letting people access magic books.

He couldn't possibly be running a fantasy-world Red Cross.

No matter how hard Ethan thought, he couldn't figure it out.

Still—so far, the tower keeper hadn't shown hostility.

In fact, he left the tower open for anyone to receive their magic books.

"Forget it. I'll just wait until I'm strong enough to fight him.

Then I'll ask him everything."

The more he learned, the more mysteries piled up.

Why was the tower really here?

What was the "destiny" the man spoke of?

Where did Ethan's strange bloodline and mana traits come from?

He wanted answers.

But to obtain them, he needed one thing:

Power.

BOOM!

BOOM!

Just as Ethan was deep in thought, thunderous explosions echoed in his ears.

It sounded like cannon fire, a battlefield roaring to life.

Springing into the air, he looked toward the distance—

Black smoke billowed from the horizon.

He frowned.

"If I'm not mistaken... that's coming from Hage Village."
