Chapter 4

He swore up and down that he was the only one who knew.

Little did I realize that what was once a compromise would turn into a sword piercing my own heart.

For Melody's sake, he resorted to such despicable means to get revenge on me.

How foolish I was to believe his lies.

Perhaps I should have known then that he could never be the one I could entrust my life to.

Like a madwoman, I ran through every corner of the city, painstakingly tearing down each and every flyer.

The blood seeping from my fingernails almost covered my entire palm, a horrifying sight.

In the dead of night, I dragged my exhausted body home, only to find that Liam had miraculously returned.

Melody sat obediently beside him, looking every bit the dutiful daughter-in-law meeting her in-laws.

Genevieve stroked Melody's belly, saying with a chuckle, "Our old Winters family is finally going to have an heir."

Liam's lips curled into a smile beside them.

Such a heartwarming scene had never occurred when I was at home.

It was as if they were the real family.

I was just a rat peering at their happiness from the gutter.

I stood at the doorway watching for a long while before slowly walking in.

When they saw me enter, their expressions immediately changed.Liam sprang to his feet with a jolt, fuming with anger:

"Which bastard have you been fooling around with this time?"

I ignored his words, changed into my slippers, and walked straight towards the bedroom.

As soon as I pushed open the door, I froze.

All of my belongings had vanished, and on the bed lay a set of risqué lingerie that wasn't my size.

"Melody's due date is getting closer, and I wasn't comfortable with her living alone, so I brought her here."

"From now on, Melody will sleep in your room, and you'll sleep in the kitchen."

"Starting today, you'll be Melody's live-in nanny."

Liam's mocking voice sounded from behind me.

So he really did bring her back?

He actually cares this much about this child.

Genevieve chimed in from the side:

"That's right, you're both pregnant anyway. Melody can take better care of her baby this way."

The three of them stared at me in unison, seemingly waiting for my reaction.

In the past, I would have silently endured, swallowing all the hurt.

But I'm leaving tomorrow.

Whatever they do is no longer my concern.

"Do as you please," I replied coldly before turning to head to the kitchen.

They seemed somewhat surprised by my reaction but didn't say anything more.Perhaps they thought I had finally become obedient.

I went to the kitchen and saw all my clothes thrown on the floor.

Liam followed behind me, leaning against the doorframe with a smirk:

"Are you throwing another tantrum?"

"I'm telling you, don't think that pretending not to care will get my attention."

"Melody is the only one in my heart."

I didn't want to argue with him, I just lowered my head and started picking up my clothes.

"Hey, I'm talking to you, can't you hear me?"

"Seraphina, stop playing dead..."

Liam seemed a bit angry and embarrassed, grabbing my arm.

He wanted to say something more, but was interrupted by Melody's exclamation.

"Liam, is this the surprise you prepared for me?"

Liam shot me a vicious glare, then went out beaming with joy.

Looking over, I saw a diamond ring prominently displayed on the table.

The diamond was as big as a dove's egg, so bright it was hard to look away.

Liam took the ring and gently slipped it onto Melody's ring finger, his words seemingly pointed:

"Remember Melody, the one who isn't loved is the homewrecker."
