Chapter 4: First Pokémon

Chapter 4: First Pokémon

~Azure S. POV~

[Kanto Region, Sunset, Pallet Town – Oak's Lab]

Entering Professor Oak's Lab, I could not help but be in awe at seeing the lab in its entirety, with rows of Pokémon with Poke balls inside. The recently captured ones that are judged from – No.

Shaking my head at this, I wasn't here to sightsee but to take my Pikachu's Poke Ball that somehow reached here like in the Let's Go game. But there's no harm in sightseeing to get myself a better understanding of my surroundings.

Taking the time to go around and see the lab, I try to see which ones are contained, trying to find my Pikachu. I have at least a few hours before Professor Oak or both return from Viridian City, with Red getting his Bulbasaur kick-starting his Pokémon Journey and defeating Team Rocket.

As for me, I guess I must get strong as well, along with my Pokémon, to ensure I survive this world with all my knowledge of the games and the Pokémon Adventure Series being based on those games. Makes one wonder if Partner Pokémon somehow appeared in the games.

Shrugging my shoulders, I began to think of the future ahead. I have the best chance to use my knowledge to the fullest. And it all starts with this place where it all began.

Eyeing everything clearly and searching around, I began to look more till my eyes spotted the security camera inside the building. Frankly, I ignored it as it would be needed by Oak to capture a picture of Green since I know he tried looking for a missing girl here years ago.

Me, on the other hand? He will send my ass to Detroit prison if it exists here, but prison is more likely, so better not to steal, at least not in front of the camera.

My eyes wandered around the nearby desk and the room till I found something intriguing. I wandered to a bookshelf using [Observe] on it. The results were intriguing, to say the least, of his studies of Pokémon.

[Training for Fire-Type Pokémon Manual]

[How to care for your Water-type Pokémon by Samual Oak]

[How to make Poke Food for Eclectic Type]

Pause. I momentarily paused, seeing the books listed here. I was mildly surprised as my eyes widened.

Right at this point in the era, Steel, Dark, and Fairy Types haven't been discovered yet. That means I can make some BIG discoveries.

I wandered around till I remembered Oak in the games kept a pair of Pokedexes in the top area in the games before handing it over to the player. Going by that logic, I began to look for said Pokedex, as I remember, Oak gave a third one to Green near the end of Adventures of Red, Blue, and Green.

Quickly hurrying along the way, I found the one I was looking for. Laid down on the table nearby was a Pokedex, the very classic one I know from the anime, being used as I took a look, along with a computer nearby, reading the contents shown.

I smiled, seeing the classic Pokedex filling me with nostalgia. Man, those feel hit hard now with precious memories.

[Item: Third Pokedex Incomplete

Rarity Item: S

Type: Key Item

Description: The third Pokedex is still incomplete as it is waiting to be registered with the contents of the Status screen showing the Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon level and growth, encyclopedia of Pokémon captured.

The basic use of the Pokedex will allow the user to see the stats of their Pokémon Level along with Pokémon facts when pointed at the Pokémon in question. If all Pokedex are present with each other, they will give out a buzz, signaling each other.]

Feeling satisfied seeing the Pokedex, I began to search for my Pikachu again. As I searched for my Pokémon, I saw other Pokémon inside their Poke Balls, gazing at me with differing expressions: cautious, scared, or angry.

Huh? Blinking my eyes, I saw a table containing holsters with the names of the starter Pokémon. But the one in the middle, I recognized as my Poke Ball, heading toward it. So that's where you went, huh, partner?

*Shiii*

Reaching my hand over my Poke Ball, it shone brightly as my hand leaned over it. The brightness shone for a moment to reveal…

*Pop*

Pikachu came out from his Poke Ball, patting his head and causing his ears to perk up. I pull my hand back lightly, anxious because it might shock the hell out of me.

Pikachu sniffed my hand lightly. Freezing lightly, he gazed at me before blinking with a happy smile, raising his paw at my fingers and crying out, "Pika!!"

[Pikachu became your Pokémon! Pikachu joined your Party!]

My eyes widened in surprise as Pikachu jumped happily. Was getting Pokémon ever this easy, though?

Pikachu then gained my attention, climbing over my arm and perching himself onto my head. He cried out happily, content with his spot, "Pika!!

Rubbing his head, accepting the affection, I smiled lightly, agreeing, "Alright, partner, you'll stay at my shoulder."

Rubbing under his chin, Pikachu cried out happily, "Pikachu! Pika!"

It was the best time to check on Pikachu's profile as I raised my Arc Phone over to the Mouse Pokémon, granting me info immediately. I was surprised as the screen showed Pikachu's stats and bio.

[Pikachu the Mouse Pokémon. Pikachu communicates amongst themselves using squeaks and tail-shaking as friendly gestures. Electricity can be used to receive and send messages with each other, as well as with other Electric-type Pokémon. It raises its tail to check its surroundings and is occasionally struck by lightning in this position.

When groups grow, they can inadvertently cause lightning storms. Pikachu forages for Berries, which they roast with electricity to make them tender enough to eat. A sure sign that Pikachu inhabits a location is patches of burnt grass. On occasion, it can get unintentionally swallowed by Cramorant. While startled, it looks for ways to escape from the latter.

Pikachu charges itself while sleeping overnight, though stress and a lack of sleep can affect this. It can release electric discharges of varying intensity. Pikachu is shown to build up energy in its glands, which it will need to discharge to avoid complications.

It is also able to release energy through its tail, which acts as a grounding rod, as well as recharge fellow Pikachu with electric shocks. Pikachu and its evolutionary relatives are related to Pachirisu. Pikachu is known to generate electricity through its cheeks while sleeping.

Pikachu discharges while sleeping due to it dreaming of firing electric shots. Pikachu and its evolutionary relatives are the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Volt Tackle. Pikachu is also the only known Pokémon capable of using the Z-Move Catastropika, and the only known Pokémon capable of using the [Light Ball] item.]

|Name: Partner Pikachu (Mouse Pokémon)

|Type: Electric

|Level: 5

|Gender: Male

|Held Item: None

|Ability: Lightning Rod (Hidden Ability)

|Nature: Hasty

|Moves: Thunder Shock, Quick Attack, Growl, Tail Whip, Thunder Wave, Volt Tackle (IM), Wish (EM)

Ack! Why the hell does he know Volt Tackle?!

Do Pokémon get an Egg Move (EM) when they're born or predetermined? But judging the Inherited Moves (IM) according to the Pokedex, I guess they can learn it if bred this way or by evolution.

Is this what the Guild Master meant he got me the best starter possible. Hmm… questions for later.

Reading the info, I'm impressed by Pikachu's move set. But what I'm confused about is the bold letters written in Thunder Shock.

Clicking on it, I was quickly informed why. It seems to me that moves bolded in the Pokedex mean that Pikachu has STAB. STAB is an acronym for 'Same Type Attack Bonus,' giving it a boost in an attack by x1.5.

Done being nosey, I began to turn to leave Oak's Lab, but not before I froze at the sight of a girl doing the same thing as me. Recognizing her uniform, I used [Observe] to be certain of her identity…

[Name: Leaf Green

Description: Leaf Green managed to steal the Tiny Turtle Pokémon Squirtle but paused, seeing you enter the scene. She eyes you with caution and genuine curiosity about your actions.]

Green… I forgot that Green managed to steal a Pokémon from Professor Oak, taking a Squirtle as our eyes eyed each other slowly, not moving an inch, with Squirtle looking between us, confused by current events.

I don't have time for this. Nor could we cause a scene unless Prof. Oak returns.

Slowly backing away, I headed towards the door, with my Pikachu looking to be on guard. I was not risking the chance to get away just to be stopped by meddling kids like Green right now.

But her eyes just wandered at me, giving a smirking grin before suddenly running off, making my heart skip a beat because she's a literal trained thief. Sigh... that could've gone better.

Great… Now I must watch my back from now on.

Shaking my head, I began to leave the lab building, hurrying up and leaving this place behind with more time for myself to leave for the next area as soon as possible. I had already gotten what I needed; there was no need to stay there anymore.

It was better to leave. I began to leave Professor Oaks' Lab through the front door, with Green already long gone, what she needed.

But hey, to each their own, surviving this world and… Mask Man oh god damn it?!

I need to fucking prepare against Legends in the future fuck my life?!! No use worrying about this right now.

I need to merely focus on getting a Trainer's License so that I can participate in becoming a Pokémon Trainer. Sigh… Today is not my day. Well, whatever.

What I need to do now is start preparing for the future and start getting a strong team ASAP, along with beating the Gyms for their rewards and with the cash they bring along. I'll worry the next two years about eco-terrorists later and start collecting the items I need to strive to be strong in this world.

Briefly pausing on the idea. Better to do some research just to be sure that the timeline of events is correct.

[Kanto Region, Sunset, Route 1]

[Observe].

[Location: Route 1

Description: Route 1 is a route located in western Kanto. It connects Pallet Town in the south to Viridian City in the north. A country road full of greenery and rough paths.]

Heading north from Pallet Town, Trainers must make their way around a large but very primitive route that will become the very first route they will explore on their journey. The route is riddled with large patches of tall grass and ledges that contour from far east to all to the far west, blocking off most of the route and making it hard to travel north, only to have small gaps by which the road has been broken into.

Making my way through, I saw the scene from the anime as I oversaw multiple Pokémon living in this area. Not gonna lie; it was an amazing scene seeing the Kanto Pokémon thrive in Route 1.

Panting for breath, feeling the exhaustion, but hey, I gotta train on my stamina. Sucks but gotta use my energy somehow, right?

I made sure I was as far away as I could get from Pallet Town, reaching Viridian City through Route 1, avoiding anybody I could come across, and staying near a building, hoping to go into a hotel for the day.

Now, I gotta start thinking about what kind of Pokémon I want to add to my team. I'll put a pause on team forming later since I need to refresh my knowledge of the Pokémon Adventure series first.

In the first series of the Adventure Manga, the Pokémon, or at least Professor Oak at the time, assumed that there were only a few types in the world, to their knowledge. I need to investigate this world thoroughly. Would it be best to assume what has happened or will happen in the future?

Then that means the simple default characters in earlier Gen 1 games won't be playing the simple rules anymore. Then, there's the leveling system of this world. Looks like it's more on the game knowledge I know from the games, but in life, it is hard to translate.

I have no idea how leveling would work here, so I'd better get used to it, as I would need to occasionally check to see how strong my Pokémon are at times. Fortunately, though, I have the Arc Phone with vast information to help me explain the process.

Sigh… Well, better start cracking on those notes. Releasing a sigh of relief from my voice, I turned on my Arc Phone to read detailed notes on how to take care of a Pikachu properly. I wanna make sure I'm prepared for my Partner Pikachu and raise him right!

Pikachu seemed to have chilled down, relaxing over my shoulder. It brought a smile to my face, thinking of the possibility of training him.

Top cooking skills should be very important in producing some Poke Blocks in the future. I think of plans to do in the future, with everything going down in the near future, with so many things to do, along with training programs for Pokémon.

Wonder what I can do for the day to feel secure about today's events. Hmm… maybe ask around Viridian how to acquire a Trainer License…?
