Chapter 46: Tilda

The group walked briskly, initially turning back frequently to ensure Caroline wasn’t lagging behind, but once they realized she had no trouble keeping up, they trekked back to the academy. It wasn’t until they hit the slope of the hill leading back up to the building that Caroline started to struggle and feel her sore ribs start to pinch. She wasn’t su“They’re coming! They’re coming! They’re coming!” Eloise screamed, her voice echoing through the clear night. Wide-eyed, Caroline looked to her friends whose expressions mirrored her own surprise. The screams chilled Caroline to the bone, her anxiety and fear increasing every time Eloise said the words. She wanted to reach out and touch Eloise, to try and calm her, but after Eloise unintentionally knocked her to the ground in the library, Caroline was concerned about the consequences of startling her out of her trance. At the same time, she was worried her aunt would hear and send someone for them.
