Lin Tian wandered through the streets, searching for a peculiar demi-human—not an evolutionary offshoot of some creature, but a native magical beast of this world known as the "Drawing Demon." These beings could imbue magical animations into scrolls through their craft.
Once upon a time, they were called "Drawing Spirits," a name with a positive connotation. However, as their exquisite works went unappreciated, they were forced to resort to less reputable means to survive, inadvertently finding great success. Eventually, humans rebranded them as Drawing Demons.
"Your Majesty, good afternoon! Are you looking for something?" The owner of the Bunny Girl Tavern called out as Lin Tian passed by.
Lin Tian paused, a bit surprised. "Have you seen a Drawing Demon recently?"
He had encountered one in the city before but hadn't paid it any mind since he didn't need their work at the time. Now, after searching for a while, he couldn't find any trace of them.
Drawing Demons were akin to "shut-in otakus." Despite their expertise, most didn't even have the courage to visit a Succubus House. It was said there were about a hundred Drawing Demons in the world, and at least ninety-nine of them were still naive amateurs. The only exception was one who had been forced by a same-sex Refining Demon.
"Oh, I do know. There's one in the depths of the Bad Alley down the street. Every week, it comes by to buy a lot of alcohol," the bunny girl owner replied earnestly, pointing toward the street ahead.
Lin Tian's eyes lit up. "I see. It's true that high-traffic establishments like yours are the best for gathering information."
He was about to leave when the bunny girl owner interrupted him, flashing her cute buck teeth and a coquettish smile. "Your Majesty, are you having a quarrel with Lady Alice? If you need something like… well, I could help you."
Anyone seeking a Drawing Demon was undoubtedly looking to purchase its filthy magical scrolls, which explained her misunderstanding.
Realizing what she meant, Lin Tian quickly clarified, "No, no, you've got it wrong. I'm buying them as a gift."
"Oh, Your Majesty, don't be shy! I only admire you, that's all. You don't have to be so polite with me. I may not be as good as Lady Alice, but at least I'm…" she stammered, trying to make her point.
Lin Tian sighed deeply. This was like having mud fall into his pocket—no matter how he explained, it would still look like filth.
"Forget it. Go back to your business. I'll explain another day," he said with resignation before walking away.
Watching his retreating figure, the bunny girl owner's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Heehee… Our chance has come! Girls, get ready and unleash all your youthful charm!" she declared.
The "Bad Alley" was one of the more distinctive streets in Goblin City, inhabited by ugly and filthy magical creatures. Property prices in the area were naturally dirt cheap.
Lin Tian began going door-to-door, checking each location personally. While he could have ordered someone to find the Drawing Demon for him with a single command, he wanted to avoid misunderstandings like earlier. Otherwise, people might think he was venting his frustrations over a personal quarrel, and he was tired of explaining himself.
Finally, after knocking on hundreds of doors and hearing frightened responses each time, he found the Drawing Demon's dwelling. Why frightened? Every magical creature that opened the door and saw Lin Tian at night thought they were doomed. After all, why would the Goblin King pay them a friendly visit? Some even fainted on the spot.
Knock knock knock.
Lin Tian knocked carefully on the door, glancing around to ensure no one was watching.
When the door creaked open, a corpulent, black-eyed demi-human appeared, bearing a slight resemblance to a demon. The distinct odor of a naive shut-in hit Lin Tian like a tidal wave.
He instinctively held his breath. Damn it, how many lives had this guy wasted? Hundreds of billions at least!
The Drawing Demon blinked in surprise. "Your Majesty? I'm out of tissues today. Maybe I should take a break."
As he spoke, he turned to head back inside, unable to believe the Goblin King would come looking for him at night.
"Hey, are you looking to die? Not only do you fail to greet me properly, but you also turn your back on me?" Lin Tian's face darkened, his tone cold and threatening.
At once, the Drawing Demon, not entirely stupid, dropped to his knees with a thud. Trembling, he stammered, "R-really the Goblin King? I'm sorry! I thought I was seeing things!"
Provoking these second-dimensional otakus was like kicking a cotton ball; no matter who it was, they would end up begging for mercy.
"Forget it. Stand up," Lin Tian said, seeing the demon nearly faint from fear. He stepped into the house, deciding not to press the matter further.
By now, the commotion had already attracted the attention of passersby.
Inside, the room was littered with empty bottles and random scraps labeled "Chaos" and "Dumplings."
Lin Tian wanted to strangle the guy. "Big guy, I'm the first in the world to allow demons to settle in the empire, and I've even legalized Succubus Houses. Can't you just go there for some fun? Don't tell me you Drawing Demons aren't making good money."
The demand for such scrolls was surprisingly high, even among married women. After all, some things could only be portrayed through illustrations.
"I… I…" The Drawing Demon stammered, unable to respond.
Lin Tian waved it off. "Forget it. Show me all your works. I'll pick a few."
Hearing this, the Drawing Demon looked as though he had misheard. "Huh? Your Majesty, you… you want those? With Lady Alice and Lady Elizabeth being so stunning, I can't even begin to draw them!"
"Keep rambling, and I'll kill you. What's this? A new work?" Lin Tian grumbled as he approached the table. He could feel the intricate magical energy pulsing from the scrolls scattered on it.
One title caught his eye immediately: "Granny Liu's Battle with the Trisolarians: Life After Contracting Cauliflower Infection 2!"
It was even a sequel!
As the title burned into Lin Tian's eyes, it felt as though his brain was screaming in agony. "What the hell is with your twisted taste? Wait, a sequel? Just how depraved is your audience?!"
The Drawing Demon scratched his head awkwardly. "Well, most of them are older demi-human magical creatures…"
Lin Tian decided not to bother with the details. However, as his eyes swept over the desk, a booklet without a cover caught his attention. The bold title scrawled across the first page instantly ignited his fury.
Without a word, Lin Tian grabbed the Drawing Demon by the throat and lifted him off the ground. "Are you trying to die?" he asked coldly.
The enormous pressure turned the Drawing Demon's face pale, and he couldn't even manage to speak. Lin Tian casually tossed him to the floor like garbage.
Gasping for air, the Drawing Demon knelt and hurriedly explained, "I-I'm sorry, Your Majesty! I haven't drawn anything in it yet! Even if you gave me a hundred lives, I wouldn't dare!"
The booklet's title read: "Alicenia and the One-Eyed Owl: A Love Story – Otome Version."
Damn it!
A fan-made work about his people?
That alone was infuriating. And to make matters worse, it included not one but two individuals!
"You haven't drawn it?" Lin Tian flipped through the pages until the very end. They were indeed blank. He checked the surroundings to ensure there were no hidden sketches before relaxing slightly, though the anger on his face didn't dissipate. "You may not have drawn anything yet, but you had the audacity to think about it. Too bad. How do you want to die?"
Hearing the word "die," the Drawing Demon, a self-proclaimed shut-in, nearly soiled himself. He frantically pleaded, "Your Majesty, I swear I didn't dare! It's the Rampaging Gorilla Gang from Bad Alley—they're forcing me to draw it! They even raised funds and gave me gold coins, but I didn't accept! The gang said if I don't finish the first chapter by next month, they'll cut off my hands!"
"The Rampaging Gorilla Gang? What kind of trash dares form a gang on my territory?" Lin Tian's eyes narrowed, radiating murderous intent.
"They're a gang that only comes out at night. They avoid patrols during the day but run wild at night. They're terrifying!" the Drawing Demon confessed.
Lin Tian quickly pieced it together. Rampaging Gorillas were black-skinned magical creatures resembling gorillas. Not only were they unintelligent, but they were also brutally violent. He had previously decreed that such inferior species were banned from the city and were to be killed on sight, with large rewards offered for doing so. Yet somehow, they had still spread into the city.
It was time for a citywide purge.
"Fine," Lin Tian said, suppressing his anger. "I'll let this slide for now since I can still use you. Give me ten of your most popular, most thrilling scrolls—the kind that makes blood boil."
As the Drawing Demon hurried to gather the requested scrolls, he nervously started, "I have this one, Granny Liu's Battle…"
"Shut up!" Lin Tian's icy glare stopped him mid-sentence.
Swallowing hard, the Drawing Demon rephrased, "Then I'll have to give you my best-kept works. Be warned, though: if you don't have a significant other or if you're squeamish about blood, don't look at them. I'm not responsible if something goes wrong."
"Just hand them over!" Lin Tian snapped impatiently.
The Drawing Demon handed him several thick scrolls, carefully packed. "Here, Your Majesty. Please take a look."
"These can really move like a movie? Not bad," Lin Tian remarked after a quick glance, marveling at how lifelike the animations were. He then asked, "I thought these things could have sound. Why don't yours?"
The Drawing Demon answered honestly, "That requires a large team of Drawing Demons and the hiring of a Sound Demon for enchantments. I work alone, so it's impossible for me."
"Fair enough," Lin Tian replied.
Lin Tian didn't ask further questions and left the room without a word. The Drawing Demon, sensing the tense atmosphere, wisely refrained from mentioning any payment and slumped into his chair as though narrowly escaping death. He let out a long sigh of relief. "Phew! I really thought I was done for…"
Suddenly, from outside Bad Alley, came a cacophony of blood-curdling screams.
"Ahhhh!!!"
"Mercy! Mercy, Goblin King!"
"Don't kill me! I'll leave, I promise!"
The Drawing Demon trembled violently. "That… That's the Rampaging Gorilla Gang's voice? They're dead?!"
He waited a long time, only venturing outside after the noise subsided. Cautiously peeking through the door, he found other demi-humans and magical creatures doing the same.
The sight on the street was gruesome: over a dozen pitch-black corpses lay in pools of crimson blood, their limbs shattered into pieces. The scene was horrifyingly brutal.
"Gulp…" The Drawing Demon swallowed hard, his face pale with fear. "The world outside is terrifying. Did just one word from me lead to the Goblin King killing all of them?"
The next day, Lin Tian carried the scrolls to the Succubus House. As usual, he headed straight upstairs, becoming increasingly familiar with the route.
This time, he knocked on the door and waited for a while, giving them time to prepare.
"Dear Majesty~? Are you there? You can come in," came a voice from within—Celeste's unmistakable tone.
Lin Tian pushed the door open. The windows were wide open, allowing fresh air to circulate, and the room was devoid of any strange smells. Celeste sat on the sofa wearing glasses, her appearance especially alluring. She resembled a seductive secretary, though in this space, she was the boss.
Seeing him, Celeste raised an eyebrow. "Dear, what brings you here this time? Haven't you already dealt with the Uninhabited Zone? Honestly, I find it hard to believe. Even Nanavis was defeated by you. From what I know, she's no pushover."
"It was just luck," Lin Tian replied nonchalantly. "I'm here this time to fulfill the promise I made to you earlier."
"A promise?" Celeste tilted her head in confusion. "What promise?"
Lin Tian placed a leather bag on the table. "Didn't you say you enjoy looking at these? Those handwritten knockoffs are too low-quality. I brought you the good stuff."
Celeste was flustered. "M-Majesty… this is too embarrassing. But since it's your gift, I'll graciously accept it~ If you ever need help with anything, I'll do my best."
"Good to hear. Take your time with them; I'll be off," Lin Tian said, giving her a thumbs-up to assure her of the quality of the goods. Whether she understood his intentions or not, he wasn't certain.
As Lin Tian left, Celeste stared at the leather bag on the table, caught in an internal struggle. "No, Celeste, you're a member of the prestigious Lucifer family, a noble high demon. How could you stoop so low as to look at such disgraceful things? If the other high demons found out you secretly enjoy these filthy works, they'd laugh at you…"
After several moments of indecision, she gave in. "Fine… Just one look. One look won't hurt, right?"
Resolving herself, Celeste opened the bag and pulled out a hefty scroll. She marveled at the craftsmanship. "The cover is so exquisite! This is on a completely different level from those handwritten knockoffs."
But as soon as she unfurled the scroll, her pupils dilated.
Three… two… one…
Her nose erupted with a torrent of blood.
In the past, she could at least last a while before this happened. This time, she didn't even make it three seconds!
"H-how is this possible? How can something like this even exist?! My god! I… I can't… I'm done!"
Her brain overwhelmed by the stimulation, Celeste fainted on the spot.
A noble high demon, laid low by a mere picture book. If word of this got out, it would be utterly humiliating.
But even more embarrassing than fainting would be having her indulgence discovered by her family.
Suddenly, a pair of clawed hands tore through a black-red flaming door in the room.
Sensing Celeste's unconscious state, her father—the Great Demon God Lucifer—shattered Jehovah's barrier in the underworld to rush to her aid, bursting into the mortal realm.
Sliding into the room on his knees, Lucifer wailed dramatically. "Big sis! My dear big sis! Thank you for this wondrous gift! If I could, I'd parachute here just to express my gratitude!!!"
