Chapter 13: An Unexpected Day

Ye Wenbo skipped class today. When he thought about Jiang Er's visit, he quickly called his school to take the day off.

After breakfast, Gu Fenyi didn't go out to shop as usual. She sat on the sofa with a waist pillow behind her back, reading a book with great focus.

Ye Wenbo looked closer and saw "Selected Works of Mao Zedong" printed on the cover.

Ye Wenbo wondered why Gu Fenyi suddenly wanted to read this. The book didn't seem to match her style at all.

Gu Fenyi noticed his gaze and raised her head slightly before returning to her book.

"It's an excellent book," Gu Fenyi said.

Though some ideas contradicted the dynasty she once lived in, Gu Fenyi admired its brilliance. Reading it gave her a more detailed understanding of this world.

Ye Wenbo had never read it before. Hearing Gu Fenyi's praise made him curious. He decided to check it out another day.

The living room fell silent again. Only the sound of breathing and turning pages filled the air.

Ye Wenbo couldn't sit still, so he quietly watched Gu Fenyi.

In the past, not only him but the entire Ye family disliked Gu Fenyi. They never looked at her seriously.

Until now—

Gu Fenyi looked beautiful.

Ye Wenbo felt she had changed drastically from before, not just in her manner but also in her appearance.

She held the pages with one hand, sitting gracefully.

Her white dress perfectly outlined her figure.

From his angle, he could see her long eyelashes, beautiful jawline, and pale pink lips.

Sunlight poured in, sprinkling gold on her hair and shoulders, as if she wore a golden crown. She radiated an indescribable elegance and magnificent beauty.

Ye Wenbo felt uncomfortable. He took out his phone and played games, browsed social media, and studied vocabulary on an app. But anxiety bubbled inside him, making everything boring. He kept switching between apps.

After more than ten minutes, he couldn't remember what he had done.

Being alone with Gu Fenyi felt different and difficult compared to before.

Ye Wenbo clicked on a popular TV series and played it. The quiet room suddenly filled with noise, making him less anxious.

"Master Hou, Yuan'er will sacrifice her life for Master Hou..." a voice from the show proclaimed.

Gu Fenyi heard this line and turned her attention to it. The dialogue sounded familiar.

She grew curious about how this world portrayed her world in TV shows.

Gu Fenyi put down her book.

"May I watch it?" she asked.

"...Yes," Ye Wenbo stiffly moved aside, making space for Gu Fenyi.

Gu Fenyi sat closer and stared at the phone screen in his hand.

Though Gu Fenyi understood this world better now, she still marveled at it. The entertainment choices seemed endless, and people lived with such convenience.

Gu Fenyi watched with serious concentration, a habit she had developed over the years.

But Ye Wenbo couldn't focus anymore. All he noticed was Gu Fenyi's scent. No longer the Paris perfume she used to wear, but a faint lemon shampoo smell.

Ye Wenbo's mind wandered while Gu Fenyi watched intently. The servants in the villa found their peaceful interaction surprising.

Together, they finished eight episodes of the over-dramatic costume drama before lunch time arrived.

"...Not very attractive," Gu Fenyi commented.

Ye Wenbo hadn't followed the plot at all. He heard Gu Fenyi's voice and glanced at the screen, spotting a familiar face.

The actor had such exquisite features that "gorgeous" was the only fitting description.

The man wore a jade crown and brocade clothes. Whenever the camera showed him, he drew all attention.

"He's pretty ugly," Ye Wenbo agreed.
