“Thank you. I don’t need it,” he said, refusing the plate of fruit she offered. He lowered his eyes, cautious. Mrs. Ye was not a simple woman, and he didn’t want to get tangled in her web.

As he spoke, he prepared himself for her response, expecting resistance or a shift in tone.

But Gu Fenyi simply nodded, unfazed.
