Chapter 121 – Ada Wong: Wonderful, wonderful. What kind of minotaur plot is this?
From the two choices presented, Renji immediately understood—it was offering him two evolutionary paths.
One option was to use the T-virus to create a group of super soldiers, just as he had previously mentioned, and reshape the world.
The other was to create a monster army, essentially a replica of the Umbrella Corporation.
"Then... I choose the first one!!"
Renji only thought for a moment before deciding. He could enhance this version himself. Though the other might offer stronger power, it lacked control. The first one won in terms of stability.
Moreover, this version could be used by others in the chat group. That made it the better choice.
[Ding! Choice confirmed. Samples have been issued. Please check.]
Three T-virus samples appeared in Renji's pocket.
From the looks of it, more analysis would be needed later. Three samples wouldn't be enough. Renji would need Red Queen to study them and fully understand them within the month.
After all, this wasn't just the Resident Evil world. CSOL's viruses could genuinely destroy Earth. Renji had to race against time.
"So, did my leader think of something pleasant?"
Ada Wong looked at Renji with a mysterious gaze. It wasn't her imagination—he had shown a fleeting excitement. This guy's mind really jumped around.
"You'll know in time."
"..."
She now truly hated the saying "a man with secrets is more attractive."
Being around a cryptic person really was exhausting.
"The G-virus sample isn't only being targeted by us. Umbrella is after it too, and they've already stolen a copy. Now, the only way to get it is through William Birkin, so we must hurry!"
He even knew the internal situation?
Ada Wong was shocked. She couldn't figure out how Renji, who was outside, knew so much about what was happening inside.
Was it that little girl?
That's right!
The little girl—an artificial intelligence!
Ada Wong suddenly realized something. All of Renji's intel must have come from her, right?
"Can I see your AI?"
This was Ada Wong's first time encountering such a thing. That little girl had instantly bypassed all of Umbrella's security. Could such power really come from someone unaffiliated?
He did form a group, but in Ada's eyes, without her, it wasn't much different from being solo.
"Red Queen?"
As Renji spoke, he activated a command in his watch. Red Queen emerged from it: "Hello."
"Hello."
Fascinating.
Being greeted by an AI—this guy really did have a lot of secrets.
"We've arrived."
Inside the lab, there were still samples being kept by William Birkin's wife, Annette Birkin, who was also a researcher. Sherry had some too.
But getting the G-virus from Annette would likely require going through Sherry.
"You seem very familiar with this place."
Ada followed Renji. Along the way, he avoided every monster with ease and found the lab without any detours.
His intel-gathering ability made even her feel inadequate.
"Red Queen."
"This little girl is that powerful?"
Previously, she thought the AI could only crack systems. Now it seemed she could handle intelligence, tracking, and more. Ada would have to reassess Red Queen.
She hadn't expected an AI to outdo her, a seasoned agent.
"Mm. Don't underestimate artificial intelligence. A few years from now, there might be no one smarter than Red Queen."
Renji openly praised Red Queen. And from his perspective, it wasn't an exaggeration. In the films, Red Queen already showed exceptional traits. Had she not been nerfed, she could've done far more.
Here, he wouldn't overly restrict her. Renji was excited to see how she'd develop.
"Can you mass-produce this system?"
Ada asked with curiosity.
If this system could be mass-produced, equipping it would make operations easier.
Though it meant being monitored, if she didn't plan to defect for now, having an AI like Red Queen on her side might be worthwhile.
"Maybe."
Even Renji wasn't sure. But it was probably possible. Red Queen could distribute parts of her consciousness into smaller units, while retaining overall control from the main body.
Back home, he'd have Red Queen lead the project. It could even help with surveillance.
"Ah, we arrived just in time."
Seeing the scene before him, Renji felt a bit emotional.
"Is that William?"
Ada looked at the barely recognizable face of William Birkin. His once-handsome features were now half monstrous, the mutation spreading across half his body.
G-1 form.
After injecting the G-virus, his right arm had become huge, and there was an eye on his shoulder.
He had lost all rationality and was targeting Sherry. Anyone in his way would be destroyed.
Part of it was the virus's instinct, and part was the lingering resentment from his death.
"We have to save that woman. She has the G-virus sample!"
As Renji spoke, he pulled out a pistol and fired several rounds at William Birkin. Though ineffective, the shots did draw William's attention.
Since Annette was still alive—and had been part of the G-virus project as William's wife—her survival was important to Renji.
"Aim for the eye!"
In G-1's first phase, his body had high regeneration, but the eye was the weak point.
With Ada Wong's help, a few bursts of bullets forced William to release Annette and howl in pain, turning his wrath on Renji and Ada.
His massive right shoulder charged straight at Renji. Having lost his mind, brute force was all he had left.
"Iron Shoulder Strike?"
Renji fell silent. No wonder he could instantly recognize all kinds of martial arts moves. It looked like William Birkin had learned this move from an old acquaintance too.
Maybe before injecting himself with the G-virus, he also trained for two and a half years.
"Get back!"
Ada Wong quickly shouted. She didn't want the organization she'd just joined to collapse like this.
She could walk away—but he couldn't just die here.
"Relax, I won't die!"
As he spoke, Renji picked up a steel pipe from the ground and charged straight at William Birkin.
"Idiot…"
Ada rubbed her forehead in frustration. Her organization leader was about to get himself killed.
William's current form terrified her. She couldn't imagine how Renji dared to confront him like this—he looked like a monster now. And yet… he blocked it!?
Ada stared in disbelief as Renji's steel pipe stopped William Birkin's charge.
Their strength wasn't that far apart!
Was this a joke? That was a creature enhanced by the G-virus—far beyond the T-virus. She had researched this world before coming, and she knew what G-virus monsters were capable of. Normal humans couldn't possibly stand against one.
"Is this guy for real?!"
Annette, who was just getting up, was also deeply shocked by the scene.
Had Umbrella's super soldier project been completed?
But…
Weren't those all just B.O.W.s?
"Incredible. So this is the G-virus!"
Renji's eyes flickered with surprise. He had a passive Eight Gates technique. Though not fully mastered, he'd already opened the sixth gate.
At this level, his physical strength was drastically enhanced. He had thought his power would be enough to suppress William. Adding force to his strike, he smashed the ground beneath William, pinning him into a crater.
This was absolute physical dominance.
Ada Wong had never seen such a fighting style. Even a G-virus-enhanced monster wasn't Renji's match. Thinking back to her earlier fight with him…
He'd been toying with her the whole time.
"Ada, take a sample of his cells."
This was William's first form—his most basic state. Later stages would involve further mutation. Renji wanted to secure this phase first.
"Alright!"
Ada nodded. While Renji suppressed William, she took out a knife and sliced off a sample of flesh, storing it in a special containment vial.
It looked like they'd acquired the G-virus—though not the original, but a fused version. Still, following this guy seemed far more promising than her previous organization.
"What do you think? Can you finish him off?"
Ada suddenly thought, if they could kill William completely, wouldn't his whole body be more valuable than just a sample?
"Please, kill William."
Annette also spoke up. She could feel William's pain. As his wife, she knew death would be better for him now. He was already a monster.
Her words felt strange, and she knew these two were here for the G-virus—but Annette understood. They had the power to suppress William, and Ada Wong was watching her closely. She had no options.
"Madam, surely you don't want your husband to suffer like this?"
"…"
Was this guy just quoting too many movies?
Ada grumbled internally. Saying something like that in front of someone's mutated husband—her leader was even more shameless than Simmons had been.
She needed to be cautious. Maybe it was time to leave the organization.
After all, she already had the G-virus sample.
Did she really need to stay here?
"You're after the G-virus?"
Annette's face showed pain. She hesitated. This wasn't a video game—the situation was real.
Sorry, William…
Her heart ached. She had already decided—once Renji killed William, she would take her own life. She wouldn't allow the G-virus sample to be leaked.
Not just to protect the world, but to prevent William's work from being stolen and abused.
"I need the G-virus sample. And I need you as well."
Renji stated his terms.
Hearing this, Ada shot him a glance of mockery—this guy was a total scoundrel.
She looked at William and imagined green light flashing above his head. Dead, with the G-virus stolen and his wife claimed by someone else—what kind of minotaur plot was this?
And right in front of him, no less. She'd seen this exact scenario in those kinds of movies.
"Maybe I wasn't clear. When I say I need you, I don't mean romantically. I want you to continue studying the G-virus. I want to control its mutagenic properties and turn it into something that strengthens humans without turning them into monsters. You're William's wife. You know more about this than I do. Don't you want to see your husband's research perfected rather than lost?"
Misunderstood. Completely misunderstood.
Ada felt a bit guilty about her earlier thoughts. But really, Renji's phrasing had been way too suggestive.
So, she could take that imaginary hat off William's head—for now.
Annette also paused. She had thought this younger man was hitting on her, but it turned out he wanted her to be a researcher.
Still, she was hesitant. She hadn't been the lead researcher—William was. Though she had participated in the work, her role was smaller.
But she didn't want William's G-virus to be buried either. It was his proudest achievement. If someone with bad intentions used it to destroy the world, she'd rather it never exist at all. That would only bring more tragedy.
"How can I trust you?"
Annette hesitated. She didn't say yes, but she didn't refuse either.
"You have no choice but to trust me. In exchange, I'll rescue Sherry Birkin for you."
Sherry was William and Annette's daughter. She was currently at the police station. Once William was dealt with, Renji could head there immediately.
And when Renji mentioned her name, Annette faltered.
As a researcher, she might be willing to sacrifice Sherry to prevent the virus from spreading. But right now, nothing had happened to Sherry yet. She was their only child.
If Sherry died…
Looking at William, Annette made her decision. She agreed to Renji's terms. At the very least, it would preserve William's bloodline.
And when William heard Sherry's name, he suddenly became agitated. His strength surged.
To Renji, it looked like he was beginning to mutate again.
What!?
"I agree—but you must stop William. He can't remain this monster!"
Annette had seen William lose control and knew he would go after their daughter. The G-virus was something they had created together.
I'm sorry, William…
