Chapter 5: Dreams of the Academy

Alaric couldn't sleep that night. The events of the day replayed in his mind: the arrival of Master Arveth, the awe-inspiring test, and the revelation of his own unique powers. The idea that he could one day attend the Mage Academy filled him with equal parts excitement and trepidation.

His parents were quietly proud of him, though they said little during dinner. His mother, Lyra, offered him a small smile. "You've always been special, Alaric. Now, the world knows it too."

His father, Doran, added, "The path ahead will be difficult. Many will envy you, and others will fear what they don't understand. But we believe in you."

Their words gave him courage, but questions still lingered. What was the Mage Academy like? Would he truly belong among the children of nobles and scholars? And what of his unusual powers—how could he master six elements when most struggled with just one?

The next morning, Alaric joined Alicia and Jake near the village well. The trio had grown closer since the test, their shared excitement for the future bringing them together. Alicia, her golden hair catching the sunlight, was brimming with enthusiasm.

"Can you believe it?" she said. "We could all be going to the Academy together! Just imagine—learning real magic from the greatest mages in the land!"

Jake, who was usually more reserved, nodded. "It's a lot to take in. I just hope I don't mess up. They say the Academy is tough, and not everyone makes it through."

Alaric listened quietly, his thoughts elsewhere. He couldn't shake the memory of Master Arveth's words. You have much potential. Do not waste it. But potential alone wasn't enough. He needed discipline, knowledge, and control.

"Do you think they'll accept all of us?" Alaric finally asked.

Alicia shrugged. "Why wouldn't they? You saw how impressed Master Arveth was. Besides, we have a few years to prepare. I'm going to practice every day until I'm ready."

Jake smirked. "And I'll keep you from blowing yourself up in the process."

The three laughed, but Alaric's mind lingered on the challenge ahead. He knew the road to the Academy would be long and filled with obstacles. But for the first time in his life, he felt a glimmer of hope—a purpose that called to him, urging him forward.
