Girl From The Shadows

With every battle and practice, he was losing his life force, which meant that he was losing his will to fight, meaning that the will he would exert on his enemies during battle would be way weaker than when his life force was full.

Because of this, Sola planned to ask the captain if they could go in the forest for another hunt, which would be their third one.But before he could even ask that, Erwin received a message that changed their initial plan to find another dungeon and conquer it once three of them became a bit stronger.

There was a huge army of soldiers coming to take the city; the king had already sent his army to protect this city, though it would arrive in more than a week, while the army that was coming to attack would be here in less than a day.

As it turned out, the kingdom in which they were now was having a war with a neighboring country.

None of the three were forced to fight and could stay inside the walls, except Sola; he had no other choice but to fight and kill, otherwise he would die.

Of course, Freide and Edric understood that by helping the country they would increase the chance of their survival too.

War was not new for any of them—even in their current world, millions of people were dying in war. So, when Sola told the two of them that he was going to fight, he got a reaction that he was not expecting.

Freide decided to fight before Sola; she could not stay still when somebody was spilling blood for her sake.

Edric, on the other hand, had hated the fact that he would have to kill innocent people, but there was no other way—it was kill or be killed.

It was also a great opportunity to get stronger.

So, when the cohort started preparing, they did too.

Erwin, who saw them taking equipment and getting ready for battle, approached the three of them.

"What are you doing?"

Freide, who had a huge grin on her face, answered,

"What else? We, too, are going to fight."

The captain looked at them with a serious expression.

"May the gods look upon us and bless us with victory, then."

Just as he said those words, he approached them and saluted. One could tell from his face that he was admiring them.

"Thank you."

Their cohort had a simple mission: they had to hide in the forest a bit far away from where the fight would happen and ambush small parts of the army when the time was right.

The main plan was to stall the battle until the help came and not let the army get inside the walls.

Hours later, the whole cohort was hiding in the forest.

There were a bit more than a hundred of them, of which twenty were ashen, including Freide, Edric, and Sola.

There was only one dread-sworn – Erwin.

The section of the army that was going towards them was about three hundred people. But they didn't know how many of them had powers.

If they had a bounder with them, Erwin's small army stood no chance, but if not, they had some advantages over them, even though they were fewer.

Sola was standing next to Freide; they were hiding in the bushes and waiting to ambush.

Both of them could already hear soldiers coming towards them, and minutes later, the fight broke out.

They jumped out of the bushes and started killing the soldiers, their formation broke from the ambush, and the battle looked like a huge mess.

Most of them were mere humans without any abilities, so killing them with his sword was easier than Sola thought it would be.

[You have slain a Mere human]

[You have gained soul essence]

He heard the voice after slashing one of the soldiers across his chest.

He was moving swiftly, killing one soldier after another, painting his sword red and filling his life force.

With every kill he was getting stronger and faster, devouring the will of his prey, his soul was overflowing with life force and he was emitting it outside.

There was an overwhelming aura coming from him wherever he went.

But then he crossed swords with someone of his rank, it was a soldier a bit taller than him.He was fighting with a spear and wasn't letting Sola get close.

Sola was evading his attacks, but it was getting harder; the man was experienced and fought well.

He made small cuts on Sola, which slowed him down a bit.

Sola knew that it was time to use his mark.

He concentrated for a bit and showed his desire to the entity through his mark, which he could feel in his soul.

Seconds later, he heard the pleasant voice.

[You have Awakened your mark]

And from that point, the duel between them was not one-sided anymore.

Sola was not on the winning side, as the guy with a spear had also activated his mark.

Their speed and power were about the same, but the other guy's experience in fighting was the main issue for Sola.

So all he tried to do was exert his will on him; he already knew how to do that pretty well from training with Lola.

Seconds later, he felt it: his desire to win the fight was way stronger than that of his opponent.

Sola sidestepped the piercing blow and threw the Madman's Cleaver at his head.

The axe went fast, and the guy barely saw it. And it was too late for him.

[You have slain an Ashen human]

[You have gained soul essence]

Sola did not even have time to breathe.

Seconds later, four Ashen warriors were surrounding a boy who was fully covered in blood. It was Sola.

There was a strange aura coming from him; he created a disturbing scene on the battlefield as he was laughing and screaming like a wild beast while slaying mere humans. Some people even saw him bite one man on the neck and rip his throat out as his weapon was on the ground.

But now he was surrounded; he had an axe in his hand and was pointing it at one of the soldiers.

'COME AT ME! I WILL REAP YOUR BRAINS OUT!'

He screamed at him.

And then before any of them could attack him, he dashed towards one of the soldiers, swinging his axe at him.

The man tried to dodge his attack and only managed to get a small wound on his chest instead of losing his head.

But the boy was standing in front of him now, and other soldiers were already attacking him.

Sola tried to escape, but he could not, he looked around searching for something that he could use, maybe someone who could help him.

But no one could help Sola; everybody needed help as they were on the losing side of the battle.

He received a wound to his stomach.

He knew that there was no escape from it, he was going to die, so he must have done everything to survive, and he did.

He activated his curse.

The three warriors were harassing him from all sides when a black figure appeared next to him.

Unlike last time, Lily was formed in less than a second.

It looked like something woke up from the shadows.

A beautiful pale girl with long silky black hair was standing next to Sola; she was enveloped by shadows.

It was an eerie sight.

Beautiful girl who was embraced by the shadows, leaning her back on the boy who looked like a devil.

"Welcome back, beautiful."

said Sola, and grinned at the other soldiers.

Blood was still covering his forehead, so none of them had seen his mark yet.

He saw Lily form a black tachi from the shadows and materialize it in her hand.

She smiled without giving him an answer.

What happened next changed the whole battlefield.
