Danger Sense

Blaine had no idea that Nick Fury was once again scheming behind his back.

If he knew, he might have called S.H.I.E.L.D. on the spot and demanded an explanation from that bald-headed bastard. Was Fury really so uncomfortable when he wasn't stirring up trouble?

Of course, that's assuming Blaine knew what was going on.

Right now, he was still attending school.

He had to admit, it felt kind of refreshing to sit in class once in a while. It was like that familiar mindset of modern students: when they're at school, all they want is vacation, but once the holidays drag on too long, they start craving class again.

After all, sitting at home alone playing video games all day isn't exactly fulfilling. Eventually, you just want to go to school and hang out with friends. Blaine was feeling that now.

His main reason for coming to school wasn't to study—it was to socialize.

"Peter, how are things going with you and MJ?"

At noon, Blaine walked over to Peter and nudged him with his elbow.

"Nothing special."

Just hearing the name seemed to deflate Peter. Ever since MJ showed concern for him that one time, their relationship hadn't progressed at all—it had stayed exactly the same.

"You poor guy. Look at Ned."

Blaine gestured for Peter to glance at Ned, who was sitting on the other side of the classroom.

Even though Ned was a chubby geek and a shut-in, his emotional intelligence was surprisingly high. Girls who didn't care much about looks still found it easy to chat with him.

Sure enough, recently, Ned had somehow hit it off with a surprisingly cute girl.

Well—cute was subjective. In Blaine's opinion, the girl was a bit hard on the eyes.

She was only 1.6 meters tall with skinny arms and legs. Next to Ned, she looked like the real-life version of "Beauty and the Beast"—if the Beast wasn't a handsome lion, but a boar in heat.

Still—

That didn't stop Peter from feeling jealous.

The essence of man is lemon—always sour.

"What's so great about that?"

Peter shook his head, pretending not to care, and stood up. "I'm starving. Want to head to the cafeteria, Blaine?"

"No, no, no."

Blaine quickly shook his head. After all this time, he still couldn't get over the stench of the school cafeteria. "I'm going to grab something from a fast food place outside."

There really weren't many good food near there school—aside from fast food, the only famous options were burgers and fries. That's it.

This often made Blaine—who had grown up in a food-rich place in his past life—nostalgic for the flavors he missed most.

Sweet and sour pork ribs, mushroom and hot-and-sour soup, chilled jellyfish salad, braised pork knuckle...

Blaine shook his head and forced himself to stop thinking about it.

Because once he started, it only made things worse. Fast food was so bland and tasteless in comparison. It was fine once in a while, but eating it daily? No way.

Still, if he had to choose, fast food was better than the cafeteria.

On his way out of school to grab some fast food, people bustled around him.

Blaine was thinking.

Maybe he should improve his quality of life—hire a chef from a culinary paradise? Cantonese today, Sichuan tomorrow, roast duck the next, hot pot after that... something new every day.

He had enough money now, and since he didn't really have any strong desires when it came to women, maybe he should start pampering himself a bit.

Suddenly—

While walking down the street, a wave of dread surged through him.

Blaine sucked in a sharp breath. His head felt like it was about to split open from the pain, and his scalp felt like it was being peeled off.

Damn!

The sudden pain caught Blaine completely off guard.

He hadn't felt pain like this in a long time. Ever since he got the Hunter System, no enemy had been able to hurt him. Every attack bounced off like someone swatting at an elephant.

So for something to hit him this hard, this suddenly—this had to be serious.

What the hell?

Danger sense?

Gritting his teeth, Blaine fought through the pain and scanned his surroundings.

F**!*

"Turn off danger perception!"

The moment the thought formed, the pain disappeared.

Blaine rubbed his temples, exhaling deeply.

Damn—it really could've killed him.

He'd been fine punching and kicking Nick Fury, but to die from his own danger sense? That would've been absolutely absurd.

Still, the pain might've gone away, but the tension didn't.

His entire body was still on high alert.

That pain hadn't just hurt—it had felt like it reached into his soul. What kind of danger perception was this?

Even when facing Abomination, it had just felt like a breeze. Guns didn't even register.

If danger perception had levels, guns might be Level 1, and Abomination would be Level 2.

But this?

This had to be at least Level 10.

At least!

Blaine's eye twitched.

Was it some cosmic being?

Damn—he'd been messing around on Earth this whole time and hadn't done anything that bad. Who did he offend to get noticed by a cosmic entity?

Could it be Odin?

Because he'd stolen Thor's hammer?

No, wait—in this timeline, Odin was supposed to be in a coma. How could he be watching?

Blaine frowned.

Just the perception of this guy's existence had nearly killed him. If he really wanted Blaine dead, he could probably wipe him out and destroy Earth in one go.

Wait—not "if."

Because danger perception only activates when something poses actual danger to him.

So the fact that it triggered at all meant that someone out there was planning to target him.

Damn it!

Blaine racked his brain but couldn't figure out who he might've offended.

Odin? Nope. Ancient One? Dormammu? The Celestials?

Unlikely. He didn't know any of them. So how could he have pissed them off?

Maybe it was just a fluke?

With a sliver of hope, Blaine reopened his danger perception.

But the moment he did, excruciating pain surged again, forcing him to shut it off immediately.

Nope—it was definitely aimed at him.

Otherwise, danger perception would've lasted only a moment.

Cold sweat poured down Blaine's back as he forced himself to walk casually, trying not to draw attention.

But his darting eyes betrayed his nerves.

And then suddenly—

"Brother!"

A crisp, unfamiliar voice rang out.
