Hungry

Blaine was currently in a state of extreme vigilance.

The slightest sign of trouble could trigger a huge reaction from him.

When a sudden cry rang out like an explosion in his ears, Blaine jumped three feet into the air, nearly dying from fright on the spot.

When people are hyper-focused, even the unexpected appearance of a sound or object can startle them into a cold sweat. Blaine was exactly like that.

However, despite being terrified, he quickly recovered.

He immediately turned toward the source of the sound.

It was a girl, about 1.6 meters tall, wearing a Gothic-style dress. She looked like a doll carved from pink jade—fair-skinned like porcelain, with long, curly black hair and bright apricot eyes. Her rosy cheeks added to her shy charm, her upturned nose radiated pride, and her soft lips shimmered under the sunlight, making one want to kiss her.

Most importantly, the girl had an Asian face and an unmistakably Japanese aesthetic—perfectly in line with Blaine's tastes.

His frightened little heart instantly calmed down.

Not that there aren't beautiful women abroad, of course—but Blaine simply had no interest in them.

Aside from a few well-known celebrities and superheroes, most foreigners looked the same to him—he distinguished them mainly by hair and skin color.

'Whoa, the blonde's pretty. Whoa, the brunette's nice. Whoa, the dark-skinned beauty's hot too…'

That's about the extent of it.

So, in this atmosphere, Blaine was genuinely surprised when a super-cute, Asian-looking girl suddenly appeared.

"Little sister, what's the matter?" he asked gently.

This was the first time he'd spoken so gently since arriving in this world.

But that was all—this wasn't the time to flirt with a girl. A terrifying being was still watching him. Who knew when that thing might suddenly act? His body, soul, and even humanity could be obliterated in an instant. Wouldn't that scare the girl to death?

"I'm so hungry," the girl said, her large eyes curving into crescents. A drop of drool appeared at the corner of her mouth as she added something chilling:

"You look delicious."

What?!

Blaine instantly leapt back several steps.

His scalp tingled.

I look delicious? What kind of creepy line is that?!

His mind-reading ability wasn't working—meaning she was speaking the truth!

She actually means it?!

"You're really saying you want to eat me?" he muttered, stunned.

"I'm so hungry. I'm never full," she said, placing her hands on her hips. Despite her petite frame, she exuded the aura of an adult. "In this place, you're the most delicious thing here."

She looked at Blaine the same way he looked at food earlier—and even licked her lips, full of eager hunger.

Blaine swallowed hard.

Then, her belly suddenly rumbled, and that intimidating adult demeanor vanished. She squatted down, clutching her stomach with an aggrieved expression, her innocent face now tangled in a pitiful frown.

But recalling what she just said…

Blaine couldn't help but think: Is she hesitating because she's deciding whether to eat me or not?

He gave a helpless smile.

I'm being too paranoid. She's just a ordinary girl. What could she possibly do to me?

"Are you really hungry?"

Blaine approached her, squatted down, pinched her chubby cheek, and repeated softly, "Are you really that hungry?"

"Mm-hmm," the girl nodded. Her stomach growled again, and her adorable face scrunched up even more. She looked absolutely pitiful.

"Alright then. Let me treat you to something."

Blaine patted his chest generously. Although he knew there might still be a powerful being watching him, requiring constant vigilance...

He also understood that when facing something so terrifying, even obsessive vigilance wouldn't help. If someone could kill you with a breath, what's the point of worrying?

Having accepted that, Blaine felt strangely at ease.

The feeling of his life being in someone else's hands wasn't pleasant—but now, it just made him a bit fatalistic.

If I'm going to die anyway, I might as well enjoy the day. Better to be happy than live in fear.

He smirked. If that guy watching me doesn't kill me now, then when I'm strong enough in the future and find out who it was—I'll take him down first!

"Yay!!"

The girl's eyes sparkled like a wolf's when she heard the word food. Blaine shivered. Is she going to eat the earth too?

Shaking off the absurd thought, he patted his chest and said confidently, "Let's go. There's a fast food place ahead. Eat whatever you like!"

No way she can eat that much… right?

Turns out—he was very wrong.

Half an hour later.

Blaine stared, dumbfounded, at the mountain of fast-food wrappers in front of him. The girl was still munching on hazelnuts, showing no signs of stopping.

He nearly lost his mind.

More and more people gathered to watch, equally shocked.

Thankfully, the fast food place was located in a bustling part of Queens. They were well-stocked for the daily rush of customers. Otherwise, the restaurant would've been emptied in the first half hour.

"Are you full yet?" Blaine asked, dry-mouthed, in disbelief.

"Ugh... no... not full..." she mumbled through a mouthful of food.

Seeing her like that, Blaine didn't have the heart to stop her. He just sighed and watched helplessly.

Another half hour passed.

The store was completely emptied. Wrappers were piled up like mountains. If they hadn't been cleared multiple times, they would've buried her table—and the few around it.

Blaine wanted to see how much more she could eat, but there was simply no food left. The staff finally informed him that they were out of ingredients.

"Are you full now?" he asked again, taking a deep breath.

"Mm..." she patted her belly, glanced shyly at the growing crowd, then popped the last chicken leg into her mouth and nodded reluctantly. "I'm full."

Liar! Blaine screamed in his mind. You're totally not full! Your mouth never stopped moving!
