The morning dawned bright and clear, perfect weather for setting sail. Sanji stood at the Baratie's entrance, a small bag containing his few possessions slung over his shoulder. The entire restaurant staff had gathered to see him off, their expressions a mixture of pride and sadness.
"Remember to eat your vegetables," one chef called out teasingly.
"And don't forget to write, you ungrateful brat!" another added.
Sanji rolled his eyes but couldn't hide his emotion. "Like I'd waste paper on you idiots."
Zeff stepped forward, his imposing figure silencing the others. For a moment, it seemed he might embrace Sanji, but instead, he held out a small, weathered notebook.
"My recipes," he explained gruffly. "The ones I never taught you. You'll need them on the Grand Line."
Sanji accepted the notebook with trembling hands. "I... Thank you, old man."
"Don't thank me," Zeff growled. "Just don't die before finding the All Blue."
"I won't," Sanji promised, his voice steady despite the moisture in his eyes.
As the Straw Hat crew prepared to depart, Luffy frowned at their vessels. "We're going to need a bigger ship for the Grand Line."
"About that," Kai exchanged a significant look with Nami. "We may have a solution."
"We do?" Luffy perked up. "What kind of solution?"
"It's more of a surprise," Nami replied mysteriously. "But we need to make a stop at Syrup Village first."
"Syrup Village?" Luffy scratched his head. "Where's that?"
"It's a small island not far from here," Kai explained. "Something is waiting for us there."
Luffy's eyes lit up with excitement. "Is it meat?"
"Better than meat," Kai laughed. "It's going to be our new ship."
As they sailed away from the Baratie, Sanji stood at the stern, watching the floating restaurant grow smaller on the horizon. The others respectfully gave him space for this final goodbye to his home of many years.
Once the Baratie had disappeared from view, Sanji turned to his new crewmates with renewed determination. "So, where exactly is this Syrup Village, and what's waiting there?"
"It's a small island with a single town," Nami explained, consulting her map. "About two days' sail from here with favorable winds."
"And as for what's waiting," Kai added with a smile, "it's something we arranged a few months ago. During our travels before meeting up with Luffy."
Zoro raised an eyebrow. "You've been planning this for that long?"
"We had time to prepare while Luffy was starting his journey," Nami explained. "Kai suggested we might need a proper ship for the Grand Line, so we made some arrangements."
Luffy bounced with excitement. "Tell me more about the ship! Is it big? Does it have a cool figurehead?"
"You'll see when we get there," Kai said, enjoying the captain's enthusiasm. "But I think you'll be pleased."
"In the meantime," Nami added, "it might be good to explain some of your gadgets to Sanji and Zoro. They've seen you use them, but they probably have questions."
"That's right," Sanji agreed, lighting a cigarette. "Like that healing spray you used on the moss-head. I've never seen anything like it."
"And your storage ring," Zoro added, pointing to Kai's dimensional storage device. "It seems to hold more than should be possible."
Kai's expression became slightly more serious. "I should probably explain a few things about my abilities. I'm not exactly a normal human."
Over the next two days, as they sailed toward Syrup Village, Kai gradually revealed more about his origins to his new crewmates. He explained his Devilukean heritage, his encounter with the black hole, and his unique wish-granting abilities. He demonstrated some of his creations—the gravity belt, the healing spray, the dimensional storage ring, and his translator earpieces.
Sanji was particularly fascinated by Kai's compact cooking gadgets, while Zoro showed interest in the gravity-altering equipment that could be used for training.
"So you're basically an alien with magical technology," Zoro summarized bluntly after one of Kai's explanations.
"I wouldn't put it quite that way," Kai laughed. "But close enough."
"And you have knowledge of what's going to happen?" Sanji asked, understandably skeptical. "How does that work?"
Kai hesitated, trying to find the right words. "It's not exact. I have... impressions of possibilities. Things that might happen. But our actions are already changing those possibilities."
"That's why you knew where to find Luffy," Zoro realized. "And why you weren't surprised when Mihawk showed up."
Kai nodded. "But the future isn't fixed. The more we change things, the less reliable my knowledge becomes."
"Well, it's not like we're following a script anyway," Luffy interjected cheerfully. "Adventures are better when they're surprising!"
As they approached Syrup Village, Kai grew more animated, excited to see the results of the plans he had set in motion months earlier.
"There it is!" Nami pointed to the shoreline, where a small, peaceful village nestled against green hills. "Syrup Village."
"It looks quiet," Sanji observed, shading his eyes against the sun.
"Looks can be deceiving," Kai replied with a cryptic smile. "This place has quite a story."
They anchored their vessels in a small cove near the village. As they prepared to disembark, a voice called out from the shore.
"Halt! Who goes there? I am the great Captain Usopp, leader of the Usopp Pirates and protector of this village! I command an army of 8,000 men!"
The figure standing on the shore was a lanky young man with curly black hair and an exceptionally long nose. He wore overalls and had a slingshot at the ready.
"Usopp!" Nami called out with a wave. "It's us!"
The self-proclaimed captain's eyes widened in recognition. "Kai! Nami! You actually came back!" His face broke into a wide grin as he lowered his slingshot. Then he noticed the others. "And you brought friends!"
Luffy leaped from the boat before it had fully reached the shore, landing with a splash in the shallow water. "I'm Monkey D. Luffy, and I'm going to be King of the Pirates!"
Usopp's jaw dropped. "You're... you're really him! Just like Kai said!" He stared at Luffy in awe for a moment before shaking himself out of it. "Well, of course you are! The Great Captain Usopp would expect nothing less than legendary companions!"
"Legendary might be stretching it," Zoro remarked dryly as he stepped ashore, followed by Sanji.
"Speak for yourself, moss-head," Sanji retorted, straightening his tie as he gazed around at the picturesque village.
Kai stepped forward to clasp hands with Usopp. "It's good to see you again. How's the training been going?"
"Incredible!" Usopp flexed a barely visible muscle. "I've become at least ten times stronger! Maybe twenty!"
"And how's our... project coming along?" Nami asked, looking toward the hill that overlooked the village.
Usopp's expression became one of pride. "Oh, you're going to love it! Merry has outdone himself. It's ready and waiting for you."
"Then what are we waiting for?" Luffy exclaimed, already starting up the path. "Let's go see it!"
"Wait, Luffy," Kai called after him. "There's someone else we should meet first."
As if on cue, a delicate blonde girl appeared at the top of the path, accompanied by a butler with distinctive lamb-themed hair.
"Kaya!" Usopp called out, waving frantically.
"Miss Kaya and Mr. Merry," Kai said with a respectful nod. "It's wonderful to see you both again."
"Kai, Nami," Kaya smiled warmly. "When we saw ships approaching, we hoped it would be you."
"And this must be Monkey D. Luffy," Merry added, adjusting his glasses as he observed the straw-hatted boy. "Usopp has told us all about you."
"Nice to meet you!" Luffy grinned. "Usopp says you have a ship for us?"
"Indeed we do," Merry replied with a polite bow. "If you'd all follow me to the north shore, I believe you'll find it meets your specifications, Mr. Zarathius."
As they walked, Kai turned to his new crewmates. "I think I should explain how this all came about. It started about four months ago, when Nami and I visited this island during our treasure hunts..."
