A pitch black screen took Oscar's vision for a brief second and then varnished.
Oscar didn't feel any changes in his body except for the injuries that has been recently inflicted. It's almost like the system was bluffing when it announced that it was shutting down seeing as he was still very much alive.
Then Oscar raised his head quickly on guard for the fire and ice foes that battled with him, but his eyes noticed the real change. He was in a different terrain altogether.
It had no atmosphere, just an endless void of darkness. Below, the surface of the ground was red, its aesthetics like it was constantly being tried with fire; liquid fire.
"System," Oscar whispered as his eyes wandered round the place in bewilderment, "System?"
"Where am I?"
{Location: The Underground}
{Main quest: Refill Elixir}
{Objective: Find the heart of Oris The Resurrector}
"What's the elixir and why do I need to refill it?"
"I died!" he seemed flabbergasted. Oscar raised his palm and stared at it for a second like it was brand new, "So I've died before."
"Arghhhh!"
Suddenly a scream came from below the mountain Oscar was on. Without letting a second slide he rushed to check it out.
At the tail of the mountain were an army of giant red scorpions with lava dripping from their bodies, a sight Oscar had never seen before.
Between them were three humans; a man, a woman and a young boy, all in combine effort trying to fight them off with flaming whips that resembled his first weapon.
"Ahh," Oscar's head bounced back, "How am I gonna finish my tasks if I don't have any weapons? I lost my whip."
"Oh, this is really like a game," Oscar interrupted the system. With a finger placed on his jaw, he contemplated. "System, show me my points."
{Game points: 1010}
"Wow, over a thousand."
"Hmm, what can a thousand get me?"
He scrolled to the weapon tab.
"Hmm, a chainsaw sword with flaming edges," he placed his hand on his chin thinking about if for a while. "990 points. I'm getting it."
{Weapon equipped}
"Maybe if I help these guys, they could help me find the Elixir."
Oscar literally jumped down the mountain as soon as the purchase was confirmed. He landed on his feet and pulled out his chainsword. But he was too late, only the scorpions crawled around the area, there were no more humans in sight.
"Hey," he yelled at them angrily drawing their attention to himself, "What did you do to them?"
"Shh!" a voice shushed him from behind a small hill. It was a man holding down a young girl pretty much like him, as she cried in his arms her hand stretched forward like she had lost something where the scorpion's crawled.
Then it hit Oscar, they were both in hiding.
"Relax dear sir, I'd take them from here," he gripped his chainsword tightly and glared at the weird creatures.
"You don't know what you're dealing with," the man advised with a dreadful tone.
"To be fair, they don't know what they're dealing with too. Don't you think?" Oscar responded with a grin and charged towards them as they advanced.
Shaken by his confidence that's assorted with arrogance, the man stood up to see the battle for himself. Even the saddened young lady couldn't help but take a peek.
Oscar began his attack with the explosion, tearing a dozen of them in pieces before concurrently diving into them with his new weapon, and a smile at the side of his lips.
He sliced through them like giant bread loaves, in tens and twenties as they came.
Mid battle Oscar had realized that he couldn't swing the sword as effectively as he did the whip. It was heavy, it took a toll of his strength.
But another factor eliminated the first, the sword was powerful, it was literally throwing their bodies flying in pieces, coupled by his explosive ability.
A couple of minutes more and Oscar had wiped out a whole army of them. He pinned the sword on the ground and fell on his knees beside it breathing heavily, yet his expression giving of the looks of a blood tasty beast.
"Three fights in a row," he wiped the side of his lips. "My stamina probably can't take any more. I should get some rest."
He stood up and approached the two guys, "You two, where can I get some food and water."
For some reason this guys' still had the same gruesome look as they have had since he got here. In fact now, they were more terrified.
"What's wrong I finished them off. I need you to return the favor now. I need water."
They turned a deaf ear, both of them with their eyes fixed behind him like they were expecting some kind of terror.
"Can you hear me!" rage started building up in him. The experience gave him flashbacks of how the rich kids in his school would intentionally ignore his simple requests just because he was poor.
Oscar gasped for breath as the feeling of fatigue weighed on him, "People!" he sighed. "They're all the same. Don't worry I'd find my own way."
As soon as he turned around he glimpsed the broken tail of a scorpion reaching for him in full force which was quickly averted by the man, but the same the scorpion's broken arm gripped his neck within its fingers and shredded it while he was staring at the girl.
"Nooooo!" She screamed with a pained echo.
Oscar turned around to see the scorpions all forming back to their normal states. Their pieces returning back to each other like magnets, reshaping the monsters he just fought off.
In fear he stepped backwards slowly. His heart panting, "System, what are these?"
Oscar gasped in panic, "What the fuck!"
